Blacked-out side marker lenses

Hey guys,

I was scouring the forums the other day and I noticed that Mini__Gz had PlastiDip'd his side marker lenses. I popped my lenses out and put a thin layer on. They turned out great, the car looks way better, and the light actually still shines through. I just wanted to put some pictures of the result. I think they look awesome. I wish there was a company out there that made the quarter panels without the side markers, because I would buy those in a heartbeat.

Three problems with the pictures:
- Crappy cell phone quality
- My car really needs to be washed
- I parked in the ghetto

Here's a video:

Thanks! I did the beltline with the kit from OutMotoring.com. It was really easy, it's just a big roll of glossy black tape made by 3M. I'm doing the Grille Surrounds and the boot handle this weekend, then all I'll have left is the door handles. Those I'll probably buy the molded parts from Aesthetic Creations.

Wow! I'm with you on murdering it out! I basically want to do everything your doing! My first priority is getting my mini tinted. Then maybe plastidippin the rims! I'm going to check out that beltline kit. Are you going to platicdip the boot handle? Did you get the aesthetic creations front emblem molding? How did you debage the back.. I heard the emblems were bolted on? Sorry for all the questions! I'm digging your ride!

No problem! The boot handle is getting done this weekend along with the grille surrounds. I took the emblems off (with a hair dryer and dental floss) and put them back on with the thin double sided 3M tape. It's worked really well so far. They aren't bolted on, but there are 2 pins in each emblem so they line up straight on the car. They're definitely harder to take off than the COOPER logo was, but it was worth it. The COOPER came off the same way, but there were no pins, so it was really, really easy.

I'll do the rims if I ever find the time. It's taken me 4 months just to find time to PlastiDip the things I've done so far.

Does the midnight black have a little bit of blue in it like the Astro Black does?

YUP i think i was the first to think of doing this ..........IMO it looks way better than the clear markers (which i wanted at first). Here is a pic of mine . You can see how the black trim and the PD'ed markers look like they are from the same material .

BTW: When is some1 going to start a PD club?????

I put on the smoked stick-on lens things from Out Motoring, I think it was. They're just the sticky plastic guys that go on over the lenses, not actual replacement lenses, but they reduce the poke-in-the-eye prominence of the stock lenses. If somebody would make clear replacement units, or smoked ones, I'd do that in a heartbeat, but so far those are made only for gen1 cars.

My midnight black looks like it has a slight purpleish hue to it in certain lighting.

I barely see the blue in mine, especially when it's clean. I just took off the boot handle and grille surrounds, I'm going to paint them both tomorrow!

All done.

I think I may need to add another coat or two on the boot handle a few weeks from now though, unless it just got really dirty really quick. Now all I have left are my door handles. My fender light tints should be coming in the next few days. Too bad Lamin-x takes forever to mail you things.

Let me know whatcha think.

Looking good!!!! I love the grille surrounds but I think your right about the boot handle.. looks like it could use another coat. I'm jealous bro!! I really want to start "murdering" mine out!!! What was the easiest for you to do? I want to start small and work my way up.

I would start with the tail light rings they just pop off.. I used the screw driver that came in the flat tire kit. Just make sure you spray all the edges good or you'll still see the chrome like I did. The boot handle ended up being a lot easier that I thought. Its just held on by 4 torx screws. Just pull it off and disconnect the cable. Everything was really easy actually as long as you know how to take everything off and put it back on.
