Just did mine last week, I used plasti-dip for everything except the beltline, and I used vinyl for that. It's very cheap and if you are not happy you can remove it very easily.
plasti-dip spray is about $8 and I paid $5 for the vinyl from a local sigh shop.

the headlight rings, grill trim, gas cap cover and tailight trim can all be removed in less that 10 min.

Check out these threads in the 2nd generation section:

Try Lowe's or Home Depot.

I am not sure if the xenon lamps are a sealed system meaning you can replace the whole assembly if they are it is a direct swap, if they aren't then all the wiring would have to be changed. You will pay way more than the $500 dollars (factory) to buy the lamps separately.

The beltline, IMO, looks SO MUCH better blacked out on cars than the chrome. Its simple to apply (I did mine in about 25 minutes). There are some tricky areas where the curves go around the car (rear and front bonnet).

I got my kit from outmotoring.com. The vinyl tape was about 12 dollars shipped and came with enough to re-do a part if I needed to.

First of all, how well does the plasti-dip hold up on those exterior parts? Second, have any of you actually removed the Plasti-Dip? If so, were there any scratches on the chrome? Was it easy to remove ALL of it? I'm thinking of going this route myself.

Do not joey mod your car with plasti-dip - you can use the duplicolor satin black for the same $5 and will not peel inside your light housing.

I didn't do my own door handles but watched both Lyle and Mini Service change them out to the wrapped ones. They are a *****. There are threads that can help you but make sure you know what you area getting yourself into prior to starting the job.

Don't say I didn't warn you!

I had plasti-dipped my headlight housing earlier this week. It was a bit too cold outside and didnt come out how I wanted to, so after about 3 days I peeled it off. I just started an area where you cannot see, and it literally peels right off with little effort. Chrome looks brand new still

With the plasti dip to get it smooth you just need to make sure that each coat you put on is a full coat that is completely wet. If you spray too little so that you can see the individual grains, you will probably see that on the final product.

I finished my blackout last summer. I did my door handles with Vinyl wrap from Lyle. They are a PAIN to do! Give yourself about 4 hours to do both! Here are some how to threads that I started, they may be of some interest to you.

Another Good Joey Mod Thread:

Door Handles:

Beltline: What actually started off as joke ended up yielding some good information. However, I do NOT recommend that you use electrical tape on your beltline.
