I tried to get a 5000 mile oil change at the dealer here in south bay. The worker quoted me $350 for the oil change. Is $350 going price for the oil change at the dealer?

Where? Fantasyland? That's outrageous. The going rate (+/-) is more around $80.

That's what I thought. I just want to check that I am not the only one who thinks this way. Thanks.

At a dealer that sounds about right.

Anywhere else it is way to high.

EMY RDL,

You need to drive in this direction for your next oil change. Crown MINI in Richmond quoted me $93 for an oil/filter change last weekend.

That's about right. You should call Miniusa and tell them what that dealer wanted to charge you for a early oil change.... Did he have a gun in his hand?

That's not even right for a dealer. My dealer charged me $75.

One wonders whether they quoted Inspection I, which includes the oil service. The $350 estimate has to have about 2.5-3 hours of labor in it.

You can change the oil and filter yourself for about $45.

Wow, I spent $35-40 doing it on my own. Good thing to learn how to do if you're planning on changing it every 5000 miles.

Well.....Everyone knows that you should let the car drain for 3hours to get all the oil out. At $100/hr average shop rate, plus oil and filter brings the total to $350

Workers do not answer customer calls and don't give estimates.

Just for fun I called your dealer, South Bay Mini at 877.309-5393, and was quoted $90.00 including fees for a synthetic oil and filter change on a 2008 R56.

The dealer I bought mine from sends out coupons for $110 oil changes occasionally. If I'm out that far I'd go to Detroit Tuned for a little over half that and get to see the lovely and talented Chad change it.
The dealer I now have Lewis serviced as has a lower shop rate and I'm sure wouldn't charge more than $100 for an oil change, probably less, but mine were all covered by service.

Well, by the way, you have to pay for it at MINI dealer? I thought oil change is belong to the warranty.

You have to pay if you want it changed anytime other than when the OBC indicates the "need" for an oil change. My OBC did not count down to service until over 20,000 miles. Dealers will change it once a year under the service contract otherwise. Many people do not trust MINI's durability cycle and change at lesser intervals (some after break-in, some every 7,500 miles).

i changed mine on monday right after the 1200 mile break-in. it was simple enough. the only thing was the drain bolt being recessed unlike the typical bolt in my other cars made it difficult to remove once the oil started leaking out and made everything extra slippery. also got my ratchet covered in oil.

I just realized that this was for an early oil change. I thought they were quoted for a regular full oil service.

And yes $350 for an early oil change is way way to much.

I think that most dealers charge $250-350 for a regular oil service; not that i am saying i pay it. Once the car is out of maintenance then I will do it myself or take it somewhere that charges a reasonable price.

The lead Mini mechanic at the dealer I take my car to said he didn't trust the recommended oil change interval and suggested 7,500 miles for oil changes. He thought the oil could take the millage but said there was no way the filter could and still be effective. That said they still charge for "early" oil changes.

Alright, I'll pay that if I get to sit there and watch the guy just stare at it while it's draining for all that time.

He better not be doing anything else while on my dollar!

I didn't call the worker. I made an appointment. I was there 7 in the morning to do an oil change. What a waste of time. The girl gave me the look of are you crazy to do an oil change at 5000 miles. Anyway, she gave me a lecture of how BMW made cars don't need an early oil change on and on. By the way, I will call all the dealers in South Bay to find out how much oil change cost. Rant over.

Yep, other the the hand/ratchet coated in oil, it was pretty easy and not so messy. Wear rubber gloves. The MINI is least messy oil change I've ever done.

I am guessing the hardest part is getting under the car,the car up on ramps?

These little buggers are low compared to my other cars....
