R56 ASC Holy Crap!!
ASC Holy Crap!!
Well, last night we got our first real snowfall of the season here in VT, about 2 in of light fluffy snow. So, i was coming home and i have to go up a rather large hill with i would guess about a 20-30%incline. halfway up a few deer ran out in front of me and i had to stop(ABS is good). So, with the deer gone i had to start from a dead stop and go up this hill... well i was going about 2mph and slowly climbing up and the ASC light is going crazy. So i knew my tires were spinning and i was explianing to my GF what the ASC does. and so i decided to show her how it cuts engine output. Now, i have never actually seen this either but as soon as i turned it off i went red line and lost traction and actually started to slide backwards! so with that little demo done i turned it back on and back up the hill we went and finally made it all the way up. But i must say i am extremely impressed with how the ASC worked. And today i got my winter tires on so hopefully Tobey will go much better in the snow. Well, thats my little story.
Yup it does work well, if you let it. What most folks can't seem to wrap their heads around, IT IS *&%#@* SLIPPERY, but they want to move along like it sunny and warm, so the traction control kicks in, slows them down, but allows them to at least keep moving, without having to play with the throttle.
That said, you may find you will need to shut it off if you become stuck, or want to launch in deep snow, as you need some tire spin to dig down to where you will get traction. But once your rolling, turn it back on.
Oh, here is were I normally get flamed, if your pulling out into traffic, and your hard on the throttle so you can fit into a space, and your ASC+T or DSC cuts in, well your probably cutting someone off, and need to wait for a bigger space.

Traction control is awesome! My previous crappy Nisson Altima did not have this and I missed it dearly from my Oldsmobile driving days.

No, when that happens to me, it just means I forgot to turn off ASC/DSC.

So flame you. And you're little flying monkeys, too.
Yep it has happened to me also. I pulled onto the road & nanny said "oh my wheel slip, better kill the power" trouble was a gravel truck was going to kill me & the MINI. It didn't & when I got home odered one of Ian Cull's wonderful nanny disablers with auto up windows as a bonus. No more nanny yea!!!
