Pic request: Have you looked under your MINI?
Hello folks,
It's just my curiosity, have you looked under your mini? My mini is cooper S and built 02/2008. If I recall correctly (because I saw some pictures before), it has covered with big plastic panel (I am not sure what they call this object) both left and right side, but mine does not cover with big plastic panel.
Sorry for bad pic quality and thanks in advance.

Here's a small gallery of pics I took of the underside of my Cooper S I bought back in May.

That would definitely clean up the air flow under the body. Without the panels the air flow is pretty messed up. I have an Aug/08 MCS and I don't have the panels either.......
I have a July/08 MCS -no plastic.
Honestly I think the amount of aerodynamic improvement you'll achieve from the plastic panels is pretty minimal. I see the plastic panels as dirt and garbage traps, -i'll pass.

Would have expected that an improvement in aerodynamics for the 2009 MINI's would be reflected in their EPA MPG Scores.
As you can see from the table linked above, there was a one MPG improvement from 2007 to 2008 from how the Alternator was programed,
or something, but no change from 2008 to 2009.

A reduction in Drag would have a very positive effect on Gas Mileage,
the major factor in MPG difference at 70 over 50mph would be aerodynamic drag.
Some day when you are going to/from a place when the wind is strong in the same direction,
you could measure the difference in your MPG.

It improves aerodynamics while reducing road and wind noise. Most upscale cars like BMW already have these type of panels. I bet the car feels more stable at higher speeds. As far as MPGs go, you might see 1 or 2 more MPGs, nothing significant.
And the MPG average would only come into play at higher speeds. Probably wont notice a difference at 40mph, but at 80 it could potentially have a large effect.
