Dent Depression

I received my first door dent today on my '09 MCS. I found out about it when my boss and I were returning from lunch (we went out) and he says, "you have a dent in your door" as he pulled in next to me in the parking lot. Surely, I thought, he was just messing with me. I went around to look and sure enough there was a dent in the center of my door. He just laughed! How depressing. Later that day I got home from work and pulled into the garage, up next to our CUV. I noticed that the back door of the CUV, when opened up, lined up perfectly with the dent! How humilating, dented by my own family. I went inside and the wife noticed I was bummed and asked what was up. I told her about the dent and said that it appeared that her car was the culprit becaused the rear door lined up perfectly with my door dent. Bad move, because at that point my "precise baby" was "damaged" by "our family". How "cold and selfish" of me and somehow it became my fault for squeezing two vechicles into our garage. I think I will just go to bed.

I feel your pain but there is hope and it called paintless dent removal and its about $75.00 to $125.00 and you can watch pop the dent out. They do real fast and if there is some chipped paint you can get the factory touch up paint from the dealer or get it online if you are far from the dealer. To touch up a chip you shake up the touch up paint for about one minute and then put a small dab on the chip it will will look like too much a small bubble. Now let it dry about 1/2 hour then use any scratch removal compound you like (you will find this product next to the waxes and polishes and comes in small tube) and rub on it with very little pressure you will see the bubble start to flatten out and fill in the chip, but do not rub to hard or you will remove all the paint and you will have to start over. This works great for chips on the bonnet.
I have had many paintless dents removed on my cars with perfect results so search paintless dent removal in your area on the internet and get you mini back to like new.

Yes, use this unfortunate incident to make you stronger. Seek out and find the best PDR person in town. Trust me, you will need their services again. PDR is an art, so do some networking to identify the best. It is time well spent. Ask me how I know....

I will die when I get my first door ding/dent. On the lighter side, it's very fixable...

Anytime time some kinda damage occurs to my vehicles by the significant other, I use it as an excuse to fix and improve it. Meaning.."oh well, guess the baby needs a new pair of shoes." Or, "Hmmm, maybe that new engine tuning kit will make me feel better." Yeah, she's more careful now of being careless around the car.

LynnEl,

"$80????? I can get them for 10 bucks from the guy who stands in the center divider of Rockpile Pike......"

The important question is not whether you can get them. Do you get them?

Happy Camper again

OK - I decided to get the door ding fixed today. I couldn't stand the thought of looking at that ding every time I reached for the door handle. I became overwhelmed! I found a local Paintless Dent Removal place today and payed only $35. I watched while they fixed it, which appairently wasn't all that easy because it took close to one hour. It turned out great! They even filled in the small "paint chip" with clearcoat and buffed and waxed out the door. They repaired a second door ding I didn't even know I had until they pointed it out (it was actually there). It was 100% customer satisfaction all the way! An interesting side note was when they were looking over the rest of the car, they were pointing out really subtle hood dings (that I really couldn't see) and said they were probably PDR fixes done at either the port or the factory! Wow! OK - Dent fixed, boss -> go ahead and laugh away now -I don't care, and the wife settled down. All is good! But, how to keep it from happening again? I need a good door edge trim piece that cushions.

MrT, some folks have hung those boat bumpers you see around the docks.

Good your found a good PDR place and that was very well priced. (cheap).

I just KNOW I'm going to jinx myself and my car by saying this, but in the 1 1/2 years since I bought my car, I haven't received a single dent. And yes, I have to park at the supermarket just like you do. I do the usual things as much as possible--park away from cars, park in end spaces, etc., but in the end it's been the longest time I've owned a new car. I do work from my home, but the car still goes out a few times a week, just like my previous ones. So far I just have the usual stone chips on the bonnet, and a couple on the metal strip just below the windshield.

May the Dent God not inflict a lightening bolt on me for saying this!

Now, what I DID get was a "raised dent," on the driver's side, most likely caused by someone closing the door on the seatbelt. My husband and I didn't do this; the only other driver it had during the previous couple of weeks had been the dealer's people. I can't prove it, though. The repair, including painting, is about $400. I can't see spending that much, although I do admit gritting my teeth every time I see it (every time I open the door).

Glad you got it fixed!! The same thing happend between my parents, except it was between my mom's car (back then was an '06 BMW 750Li) and my dad's car ( back then an '02 Porsche 911 Turbo). My dad was way late to work, and accidentally swung the door HARD into my mom's passenger door and BAM!! SHE WAS SOOOOOOOOOO PISSED!!! and not just because of the ding, but because he denied it! and I was there when it happened!! If I remember correctly, she brought it to the dealership the very next day, AND had the service manager install iPod integration for the front and & iDrive systems... And guess who got the bill!

One must be very careful when dealing with the female half...

Access is a problem sometimes, according to my PDR guy. Some are easy to get at, some aren't. This may influence cost.

Don't laugh, you have thinking about it now!

ABSOLUTELY! I still go out and look at the area and I'm awed (sp) by how good it looks. In fact, I cant find it anymore.

Exactly my situation. "Couldn't possibly have been my car that did it". The only problem with buying farkles is that I would get the bill.

Has anyone ever heard of a paintless repair for a raised area?
