Lightning Blue or Horizon Blue

After sadly selling our 2005 Hyper Blue Mini this summer, we are ready to order a 2009 model (we really miss not having a Mini). Our problem is that we really like the current shade of Lighting Blue but did not want to order until 2/09 or 3/09. We now learn from Motoringfile that Lightning Blue is going to be discontinued and replaced with Horizon Blue in December.

Question: Besides the very small sample on Motoringfile, does anyone have a clue whether Horizon Blue will be darker or lighter than the Lightning Blue it replaces?

TIA...

Tough call for you - we have the Lightning Blue and couldn't be happier! My understanding also - is that the new blue will be darker.

Lightning blue is still in the configurator so it's still an option. There is no official word as to when the new blue will be available.

When I built Wensleydale in the configurator, SpaceBlue never looked like the SpaceBlue you got in person. That appears to be the same for Horizon Blue.

Here is another shot where it looks more like SpaceBlue.....perhaps it is like cool blue changing shades with changing light/angles ?

Can't wait to see more of it I like it so far, I want to see it with the white roof and bonnies

That horizon blue looks really good - don't know if I'd choose it over the lightning though. Maybe on the cabrio.

I too think that it would look good on a MCS with a white roof and hope that it is closer to Space Blue when seen in person!

ARRGH! I hope that this is not a cabrio only color!

MINI would be deleting LiB and then only leaving us with Laser Blue as the only blue for an MCS!

Gads! First MINI torpedoes me by offering OB only on the MC and then they get me a second time by D/C LiB and then strike three by possibly offering Horizon Blue as a cabrio only color!!!!

What's a boy to do?!!!

It will be a very close match to Space Blue if not the exact same color.

NO ! MINI can't do that ! SpaceBlue is unique and very discontinued ! Us SB's like our rareness !

Can you confirm it is a cabrio only color like Hot Orange was ? On the UK site I do not find Horizon Blue listed with the hardtop MC,MCS or Clubman, only the Cab.

MINI prides itself in the versatile configuration of the MINI yet limits us with "limited" model paint colors - that sucks !

I myself would love an Oxy Blue MCS or as stated an MCS in Horizon Blue with White, but it looks that I will not have the option

Honestly, I've heard a lot of people say that. It's really unfortunate that they don't offer it.

The horizon blue is the shade I wished oxyblue was. I almost switched my order to oxygen blue, but thought maybe it was just a little to 'candy' colored. I could never get a good read from it on the configurator or from samples at the dealer, there were not any cars over here in the color when I ordered.

That said, I like the horizon blue alot, just a little darker shade. Is it a metallic?

Horizon is metallic the best I can tell.......

Same thing with Nightfire red....why no MCS ?

What a shame......

I know, you can always have it custom painted but that defeats the whole thing. I guess in a way its better they keep these cool colors on MC's, that keeps the "I just gotta have it" desire in check. No offense MC owners !

IMO the new gen Cabrio looks better than the previous one but I like the R53 better than the R56 in the hatch

OK! That's good news to hear!

Now, one question still remains...

Available on the MCS/JCW or is it a Cabrio only color?

I need to know, really I do!

It better be available on the MCS/JCW! Don't dissapoint me MINI/BMW...

You're right SpitfireMkI and Blainestang if the MCS were offered in Oxy-Blue, I'd be all over that in a heartbeat! OB/W is such an elegant combination... Simply stunning, IMHO!

MINI/BMW completely missed the boat when they offered such a limited palette of colors for the MINI. Why they chose to limit the choice of non-metallic colors to so few is frustrating.

Corporate greed perhaps... All that for an extra $500?
