R56 Service Woes Re: Sunroof/Paint
Service Woes Re: Sunroof/Paint
Short story:
Car has chronic and widespread issue of sunroof not-opening.
Car has two spots of paint bubbling on roof and bonnet.
The fix:
Dealer to apply TSB to sunroof, and re-spray hood and bonnet.
So my car went into the shop on Tuesday, Oct 7 for regular service and the above mentioned two items. Dealer finished service sans spark plugs and air filter on Thursday. At that point, the car was sent to the in-house body shop down the street for paint work. Car was supposed to be finished by Thursday, Oct 16 at the latest. Car was to have been taken back to dealer for plug/air filter install.
Friday the 17th rolls around and I hear nothing. Naturally, I call the dealer to see what's going on. They say that they damaged the sunroof seal and were waiting for a new one to come in. Claim to have car ready by Monday or Tuesday. This all sounded weird to me, so I go to the dealer personally to drop off my wheels to be installed and to check on the car. Of course, the car isn't anywhere on dealer premises. I go down the road to find it at the body shop.
When I arrived, it was sitting outside, still covered with masking, tape, etc. Sunroof removed. I was thinking "wtf, why isn't this done yet if we're only waiting on a sunroof seal?" Obviously, something is wrong here. I take a closer look to find that THERE'S NO SEATS or REAR TRIM IN THE CAR. Just carpet and dash.
Assistant Service Manager doesn't have any idea what's going on but agrees that whatever it is, is unacceptable.
(rambling off)Finally my question, WHY would the dealer need to remove EVERY seat in the car, along with all the rear plastics, just to paint the roof and repair the sunroof??? My first thought it that the car was vandalized, but that seems pretty far fetched. I just don't understand why the entire interior would have to be removed..
Insight?

sunroof woes
Sounds a little weird. Why was the sunroof not opening or closing properly? Weld issues? I can't wait to hear the whole story from the dealer and the paint shop behind this one... Good luck and please keep us informed.

I'm leaving in a few minutes to have a talk with the manager. Hope to get two things: a straight answer, and a BMW Loaner (good luck)..as I'm using up a whole tank of gas a day commuting in my 4Runner.
