Big Important Question

Okay, here is the situation. I special ordered an 08 MCS that has arrived and I am supposed to pick it up today. I got up early this morning and I looked on my dealer's website and there is this gorgeous Clubman S they have and my wife has been telling me she doesn't think the regular mini is going to have enough room for us. So, can I simply walk into the dealership and tell them I want the clubman instead? I already put down a moderate deposit on the car I ordered, but I think the clubman may be better for us. Thanks folks.

Not sure about your dealer, but my dealer's website is not right regarding what's actually available on site. My dealer has not had any available 'new' MINIs in a while. All are special ordered.

If this is something you want to consider, please give them a call early this morning to verify the availability of that Clubman. And, if it is available, take your wife down there and check out both vehicles. You might have a very unique opportunity here to compare two desirable cars side-by-side before driving off in one of them. I can guarantee you that they will sell the one you don't take. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Yeah, the dealer websites in my area made it sound like they had loads of cars, when all they had were used models. So I had to order. A little bait 'n switchy. Don't get your hopes up.

as others have already said, what's on the website doesn't reflect what's available for sale. it's simply showing what they received/will receive. so if the clubman wasn't a customer order car then you can probably switch. only way to know is to call the dealer and ask.

Once a MINI is delivered to the dealer it goes on their inventory, even if it is one that was ordered by a customer. Often this is done by MINI USA. My car showed up on the dealer inventory until I officially took delivery. They do not put them there to lure people in. It isn't a "bait and switch" tactic.

I am just curious to see what the results were. I would go with the Cooper myself. Or would I...

When you check the inventory at my dealer it says the following:

Sorry, but we’re completely sold out and currently have no new unspoken for MINIs here at the store. (Must be something about their phenomenal fuel efficiency, incredible value and heroically fun ride that’s making them kind of popular.)

The good news is we’re making more. In fact, with over 50 million possible combinations, now would be the perfect time to dream up your ideal MINI. Then we’ll be happy to help you order your perfectly you-nique MINI creation.

Go to the dealer, drive both of them, take whichever one feels like it works best for you and your family. You cant wrong either way, with a brand new Mini.
