R56 Clutch slippage.
Clutch drop clutch slippage.
Hey everyone,
Quick question. Back in my WRX days, I remember reading that Subaru employed a mechanism that allowed the clutch to slip during a clutch drop above X RPMs. Do '08 R56s have the same feature? Since I don't want to go out to the parking lot and try it out, I thought I'd ask.
Thanks,
Craig

with bmws there was a check valve that did this. however looking at the clutch control parts diagram I don't see the check valve.

In my experience if you drop the clutch anywhere above 3000 rpm you lose traction. With the WRX you have AWD but the MINI is FWD so you would have to slip the clutch in the middle of the rpm range instead of the top to have any hope of hooking.
Introduced for the State-side WRXs in '03.
What a good time those cars (wagons for us kewl kids) are.
Don't get me wrong though, WRX < MINI.
I've noticed with slicks on it will slip a bit for me. Most cars anymore are designed for the clutch slip before it hurts the transmission, but that's the burning type of slip. Its only really noticeable for the quick 1st to 2nd shift. The car is fairly easy to launch with only a bit of wheel spin after a few attempts. I would just not do it a lot because the clutch will probably suffer.
