160 speedo?

Has anyone taken delivery of a non-JCW 2009 Cooper yet?

Does it have the 160 speedo in it, as was rumored?

I thought the 160 MPH speedo is unique to the factory JCW. The literature makes note of that IIRC.

The Cooper and S have speedometers that have markings up to 150MPH. Only the JCW reads to 160MPH, like others have said.

There is a user on MINI2 named DPMINI Aaron who posts official announcements sent to MINI UK dealers. FWIW, one of his posts said that the 160 mph speedo will become standard across all models. Look here (go to post #108): http://www.mini2.com/forum/future-va...ml#post3502302

Yes, I know that it was supposed to be exclusive. It may still be that way. But a couple months back, someone linked some intel stating that they were gonna put it in all the 2009 Coops. And the JCW folks (rightly so) were upset. It was thought the logic might be that it was cheaper to only have to manufacture one drive and faceplate.

I was just asking if anyone had taken delivery of a non-JCW 2009 Coop, and whether the rumors were true or not.

Thank you! That is exactly the post I saw referenced before. Here is a direct link I think http://www.mini2.com/forum/future-va...ml#post3502302

So, any "in person" confirmation?

I have a hunch that it may not apply to the U.S. market...but I could be wrong. Come Jan '09 we'll find out with new U.S. deliveries.

I think '09 just started production and nobody would have taken delivery yet (except for factory JCW).

+1
What they do with cars in UK -- or even Canada -- does not necessarily apply to the U.S.

Actually first '09 MC and MCS cars are on ships now. I'm week 36, first '09 build, and the east coast ships are arriving now. West coast ships arrive last week in Sept.

So, we will likely have the answer here this week.

Here's a link to a new owner's gallery that clearly shows the 160mph speedo. He lists his new car as an '09 MCSa non-JCW.

Speedo

I just went outside and checked. I took delivery Tuesday (9/30/08) of a 2009 MCSa and it does have a 160mph speedometer.

Inquiring minds want to know...
