Idiot smashed my windshield

Man, this is true drama. (LONG story)

Last night, around 11:30pm the S.O. and I are in the drive-thru at Jack in the Box trying to get a stupid milkshake. We're waiting in line behind a blue Jetta marked "Just Married". Well, we patiently waited a few minutes for the driver to realize there was a car behind him, and it was time to move forward. The driver didn't move. So, I beep the horn as NICELY as I possibly can. All of the passengers stick their heads out the windows. I KINDLY motion for them to move forward....

Rather than actually moving the car forward, they began yelling at us to F-off, etc. I was totally shocked at this point. I mean, what's the big deal? And WHO goes to Jack in the Box on their wedding night, anyways? Fast forward a little bit, the bride and groom get out of the car (still in dress and tux, mind you) and proceed to yell at me more all the while pounding on every window in the car.. threatening to kick my ***.

I try to back out, but there's a car behind me. In a mild panic, I begin to dial 911. The groom then yells "what? you callin' the cops, *****?". The passengers get back in the car. BUT..seconds later, they all get back out to proceed yelling more. All the while, I'm trying to convince them to get back in their car.

The groom didn't want anything to do with the fact that I was calling the police. Rather than neutralize the situation, he thought it would be wise to PUT HIS FIST THROUGH MY WINDSHIELD. Yes, he smashed my windshield with his fist. Glass all over the dash, seat, etc.

At this point, I'm irate. I mean, hey..I just replaced that glass two weeks ago and now your trashy-fast-food-wedding-*** decides to destroy it?

Fast forward 2-3 minutes, the police arrive. Bride and groom say we tried to run them over (not true), and that I was provoking a fight (again, false). Officer asks me to sign a citizens arrest form, and I press charges against the groom. Idiot was cited with a misdemeanor and we go on our merry (broken glass) way.

My insurance is going to take care of it, but of course, I have to wait over a week for the glass to come in! Good thing I JUST bought a Toyota 4Runner as a backup!

Sorry for the long story. Moral, don't honk. Ever. It could have been a gun.

If you swap out "Jetta" with "pick-up truck" you've described a normal weekend here in Wisconsin.

It sounds like you handled the situation pretty good, there doesn't seem to be much else you could have done

(This is just one of those things that I have to correct. I am not trying to be an *** but you have no idea how badly that specific grammar mistake bothers me!!!)

Geez...what douchebags. I would have done the same thing as you and, I always carry a knife on me for personal defense reasons...as stuff like this happens. I would have told the 911 person that I did have a knife on me and I would use it if I felt that my life was being threatened. Then while on the I have them on the phone I'd yell out my window that I have a knife and you are making me feel like my life is being threatened please get back in your vehicle and wait for the police to arrive, because I don't want to have to hurt anybody. Then when his hand went through the windshield I'd have grabbed it and slit his damn wrist...

I REALLY hate the loosers of the world...I mean, I'm all for just getting rid of them honestly, we don't need them, I can live with my grass only being mowed once a month.

My thoughts exactly. Who in their right mind would marry somebody like that?

Well, she DID get involved, too.......

I'm not familiar with American laws but, i understand you guys who owns guns are allowed to carry them out with you....

So if in this case, if you had a gun, and took it out and shot those guys.... would it be considered self defense (if you tell the cops you were scared for your life)?

Also, figured I'd mention, I had a halfway similar situation a few weeks ago. I was getting on the freeway and my lane was ending and all the cars actually on the freeway were very close to each other. I HAD to get on and merge, so there was a hole that was big enough for me to fit in, I had my blinker on for 20 seconds + prior and I gently moved in while I still had time. Well the guy behind me got irate and honked his horn and started acting like he wanted to fight me. I was getting off the next exit I waved good bye and smiled...Then he started following me making gestures for me to get out of the car and fight him. I got right back on the freeway and called the cops. I simply sat on the freeway with him behind me continuing to make gestures for the next 20 MILES! Then we finally met up with some cops that were waiting for us and they dealt with him so I didn't have to.

Seriously, how do these people get by in life.

every state is different...and read my above post...if you had everything on tape recorded with witnesses saying that your life actually was threatened...then maybe you could. MAYBE. The fact of the matter is though, even if you did, you would be in a legal battle for quite so time that would suck up a lot of your money so its not worth it, even if you did. Only if you life REALLY IS THREATENED. But thats the only reason you should use guns anyway. As for the knife thing and slitting his wrist...I think I could get that by in court. " His hand came flying through my windshield, I was really scared...maybe he was on drugs, i didn't know, i didn't know somebody could just punch through like that. I had a knife and warned him, so I cut his hand so he couldn't hurt me with it." See how it works Plus, it wouldn't kill him...just immobilize him until the cops come...so, yea.

I know, I know, I'm a crazy person

Wow that is just ridiculous. I seriously cannot believe people sometimes. Some people need to really take a chill pill and get a life.
Sorry that happened to you and glad you didn't get hurt (though I hope that groom got glass sticking in his hand haha)

I thought windshields would be stronger than that. Maybe a few cracks, but all the way through? hmm.
I'm afraid what would happen to MINIs in hail..

I would have run into their car to push it out of the way in self defense.

I'm glad you were the wiser one and immediately called the police instead of trying to negotiate (fight) things out with the hot-head groom. It's amazing how easily some people get pi$$ed off over essentially nothing.

I almost feel as bad for his wife as I do you, knowing that she too had to deal with the police on the day she was married. Then again, what kind of a woman would marry a guy that brings her to the Jack-in-the-Box on her wedding day? It wouldn't surprise me if they planned their honeymoon at the local Super 8 .

Just to be curious, what would you estimate the age of he newlyweds to be? Early 20's, late 20's, or older? What car were they driving?

Early to mid 20's. 1999.5-2003 Jetta ($6k car).
Guy was typical "bro". I hate to stereotype, but I'd imagine he also has an F350 that is lifted 10" and a ***** measuring roughly 30% of that.

You'd be surprised at how easily they break. My ex-gf punched through my rear windshield with her bare fist and didn't even get cut.

They sound like tweakers. It was very smart to have called 911 and press charges. Sorry for your trouble. I have gently tapped my horn a few times in similar situations, and folks snapped out of it and move forward. But yes, in certain areas, it could have been a gun instead of a fist.

Shame that your insurance has to cover it. Think they'll go after him for the cost? Scum gets away with way too much in this country. Glad you're safe!

Funny you mention the insurance going after him.

The police actually recommended NOT using the insurance because if I do, the DA will only order him to pay my $100 deductible, instead of the real $650 these windshields cost. Officer wanted to see him PAY.

Unfortunately, I need it fixed NOW and really don't want to float $650 of my own money because of some ******.
