Hot car!

Hey all. I've seen threads on hot bonnets, hot foot wells, hot tail pipes, sunroofs not opening when it's hot out... but nothing on this:

It's just always hot in my MINI. Anyone else feel like it is just warmer in theirs than any other car they've owned? I wonder if it is the black roof and sunroof, plus the anthracite liner? Or are all MINIs hotter than the average car -- in the good way and this more literal one?

I agree. I sweat a lot more in this car, even with the AC cranked up on high.
My bonnet's hot, my footwell's quite warm, my fan kicks on every time I shut the car off after driving it.

Hot car.

Tony

You wanna know what a HOT car is?I'll tell ya!......try living in Vegas and driving WITHOUT the airconditioning on.Since the car performs at a handicap with the air"on",I choose to not run it.....period!Now that's HARDCORE!

I haven't noticed this at all with my MINI. In fact, I have been pleasantly surprised with the power of the A/C unit. Keeps me nice and cool.

I do know what you all are talking about though. I had a 86 Jaguar V-12 Convertible that used to blast me out of the cockpit 24/7/12. The blow-back heat from that monster engine was incredible. Plus, with the fine British electronics on that car, you never knew if the climate control was gonna freeze you out in the winter or blow you out with hot air in the summer.
Ahhhh, Memories!
It was the prettiest car on the side of the road!

I have Astro Black, BUT I have white roof and NO sunroof, 35% tint. It sits out some days and I jump in and make a few runs, but the a/c cools it down just fine, even if the outside temp is 95. I'd say sunroof is culprit #1, no tint #2, and dark top, #3 if at all.

Yes! I get so hot from the waist down while driving that I have to turn the AC on LO and blast it at my feet for half my drive home when it's really warm out. Once the temperature stabilizes I'm fine, but I swear it never will if I don't do that, especially if I'm driving in the sun. Love the auto AC, but no so much in those situations.

Mine has a Pure Silver roof, no sunroof, no tint. Doesn't seem that hot to me. I usually turn the AC off. Never had it overwhelm the AC.

In college I had a 1966 Dodge van with no AC. Engine was between the driver's seat and passenger's seat. Used to drive it back and forth between Los Angeles and Albuquerque, NM. That route went through Needles, CA (often the hottest place in the nation). That was hot.

black roof, black cloth/blue leather, anthracite headliner, sunroof, no tint.

this car is cooler then my previous car (90 honda accord, tan interior) and my girlfriends car (98 honda civic, light gray interior).

I have no hot foot well issues. The sunroof works even after sitting in the sun all day in a hot parking lot.

I'm impressed, I think it's all relative.

I've noticed the leatherette seats don't breath very well. I have real leather in my Jeep and they're not even close to being as hot as the leatherette ones in my Mini...

I dont have this problem although I dont have a sunroof and I do have a white roof. The passenger foot well did get hot the first day I had my MINI but hasnt done it since. I live in Africa so it gets pretty hot here and I still dont find my MINI hotter than any other car, temperature wise at least

There is a lot of window for the sun to glare into, along with the sunroof in my MINI. So car does get hot, though it never struck me as hotter than another car like the wife's BMW 328xi or our '94 Volvo wagon.

I always remote-open the windows and sunroof when walking to the car in the Park N Ride, and that helps. Most afternoons I drive home with the windows open. A/C works fine when I use it, though I keep the temp LO. I have very low tolerance for heat.

We put the sunroof sunshields from Stratmosphere in last week and it makes an incredible difference. Very pleased with those shades.

I agree. The cloth seats do help a lot. Heat was one of the reasons I didn't want the leatherette. Fortunately, I don't seem to have the footwell heat problem that some do.

I always thought I was warm because of how the AC dash vents are positioned. The two driver's vents both are blocked by the steering wheel & the inner passenger vent gets blocked by the speedo when I direct it towards the driver's seat. Once the cabin temp stabilizes everything is fine, but I never get that direct blast of cold air.

Passengers are comfortable when I let them use both vents.

Not so hot in my MINI either. I have Auto AC, sunroof, cloth, and a black roof. Had it tinted right after I bought it, in Feb, and just recently put a roof graphic on as well, perforated. I jump in the car and by the time I'm out of the parking garage or out of my apartments lot it's comfortable.

I tend to keep the AC on 74 or 76. I have noticed on long trips my feet will get a little warm but I just redirect to the floor for a few minutes and problem solved.

+1 or +2 to the leatherette seats as a culprit. That might be part of the culprit as well, although I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.

No problems with the sunroof or the foot well, as others have had. And, really, I'm not complaining about this. Just curious.
