R56 I HATE THIEVES!
I HATE THIEVES!
Long story short... I came home last night at about 2 am. Woke up this morning to take my brother to the DMV at 8. As i get into my car I notice that its a bit brighter than usual. Well, when i looked to my right, my passenger window was non existent. Someone broke into my car by taking the black plastic off the A-pillar and hacking away at my window. They took my wallet, Itouch 16gig, and a pair of really cool pants i bought from a thrift shop the night before! I know, I know, i shouldn't leave valuables in there in the first place, but i have heavy tints and didn't think much of it. Either way, my deductible is too high to have an insurance claim, i'm at risk of having my identify stolen, i have no music to listen to, and i have to pay for a new window and be without a car for a couple of days. Moral of the story- take your junk out of your car, or at the very least, put it in the secret compartment. Oh and never travel withyour Social security card...even if its just for one day!
Sorry to hear about your misfortune....
BUT, that was pretty much everything you could do wrong in one day huh? The headache of getting everything re-issued and rebought is worse than the crime itself. Social Security Adm. office sucks!

Geepers!!!, there are some real *********s
in this world, lucky they didnt do any further damage to your door or pillar. Yes, it is a lesson to be learned by all of us, DONT leave any valubles in your car, and DONT leave any non valubles in plain view, it just envites breakins.

Or the pants will make them look REALLY fat.
Anyway - if MichaelSF sees this thread...he's got some pointers that he's posted in other threads that are really good rules of thumb. But I'll let him do the talkin'.

LMAO, hahah, THE PANTS WERE FREAKING AWESOME! Who steals pants? seriously? what are they chances that they'll even fit them? I can always count on nam to make me laugh. Cops are on their way to file the report. I have boyish hopes of the perpetrator being caught and all my belongings are rightfully returned and damages paid for. ehhh...i can dream, can't i?

That sucks. I hope you don't have trouble with identity theft. Have you contacted your bank, credit card co., and DMV?
When I was just out of high shcool, I left an aluminum camera case with a Minolta SLR and several lenses in a car at a motel overnight in Cambridge Mass. Still don't know why I didn't take it in with me, but I leaned my lesson. Never leave anything tempting in a car. Even nice dark glasses can be temptation enough for some. At least that is what a hotel parking lot attendant in San Francisco once told me.
I ended up lucking out. My father's home owners insurance covered everything, and I ended up replacing the aging Minolta with a Nikon (but not as many lenses). Kept that Nikon for a very longtime.

when i first moved to DC, I left a backpack in the backseat of my car and of course when I came back, it was gone along w/ my wallet/social security card, etc.
A few weeks later I get a package in the mail from the post office...apparently the theives looked through my wallet and saw I had no money so they threw the whole thing (with cards, ss card, ids, etc) in the nearest mailbox. The post office gathered everything and mailed it to me!

I had that happen in my last truck. They smashed the passenger window to steal mt sirus radio. They also took a case of new castle. I'm was more upset about the beer than the radio. I was going to buy a new radio the next week. plus they can't do anything with the radio. Sirus block the ID number and even went as far as to send me a brand new one to keep me. I hate people that do stuff like that. Karma will come back to get them. And something good will happen to you.
That sucks! Sorry to hear about it. I know the feeling big time! I have had my house broken into twice, my cars stolen, my warehouse emptied and a former employee "steal" my website for a period of time.
It is the pits! Hope you find the culprit in a dark alley!

woohoo, i hope i'm as fortunate as you were. I doubt they'll mail me back my ipod because they dont like my taste in music, but who knows. Yeah, i made a police report. Sort of futile, i think, but at least i'm letting them know that there should be be one or two more patrol cars in my area at night. I just came back from the body shop, they quoted me $120 which i found to be very fair and somewhat of a relief. The guy also told me that he's pretty sure that these are just kids. He explained how they took off the A-pillar plastic in order to wedge in a screwdriver behind the window and ideally wedge their hand in their to open the door. Unfortunately for me, they were amateurs and just broke my window. Either way, thanks for all your posts and concerns, and if you see anyone in the Miami area wearing retro plaid pants and listening to an ipod...feel free to drop kick them. Thanks.
I live in Miami. Kendall in particular. Definitely away from any major crime zones. I have a $1000 dollar deductible (which i'm not touching) and paying 125 for a new window and installation (probably another 25 to tint it, i just remembered
) And up until yesterday, VicSkimmer, yes, i did leave my wallet in my car. I've been getting that from all angles today.

sorry to hear about that!! last week i had my new shorty ant snapped off and taken ( dont ask me what for...snapped....not unscrewed ) I know it isnt as costly of a thing for me but it still made me mad..You must be beside yourself!! Hope you get the pants back if nothing else!!! (damn pant theives)
I had an Subaru XT Coupe, first year production. They busted a window out to steal a radar detector and stainless steel coffee cup.
I had to wait a month for a replacement window.
Sorry for your misery and loss. Hope the ******* get an infection from the cuts.
