Fuel Filter Change

Has anyone changed thier fuel filter on the 07 MCS? I have 22K miles on mine and was wondering if this is something I should be concerned about.

fuel filter does not need to be changed that often. I'd say 75-100K miles before you need to change it.

my experience is mainly with bmws but bmws recommended interval is 100K miles. i'll have to check the owners manual for the MCS but I've no reason to suspect other wise. but i could be wrong!

I'm sure you're not hurting anything by changing the filter sooner

I'm wondering if fuel filter changes at 25-30K miles might be a good idea given the high fuel pressure that the S directed engine operates at. I understand the pressure is 144 bar or approximately 2000 psi. Most port injection operates around 50 psi. Don't know cost of filter or location but perhaps it is worth more frequent changing to hedge one's bet on damage to expensive downstream fuel system bits.

has anyone changed their fuel filter? on the '07+ models?

also, all this talk about sludge at bottom of fuel tanks, contaminated oil . . .

makes me want to replace my fuel tank as well, or at least clean it if possible?

From the Owner's Lounge, it doesn't look like the fuel filter is in the scheduled maintenance for the free service period. I didn't find it in Service II.

I believe you access it from under the rear seat and remove the oval panels, but I'm not positive.

Looks like the fuel filter repair kit is about $61.00 on the REALOEM site.

Access cover for the fuel filter is located under the back seat.

I went over 44K miles on Louise yesterday. I already have the fuel filter kit in hand. How much work was involved and are there any special tools required?

Thanks for the info!!!

lift up rear seat

remove cover under right rear seat (6 nuts i think)

lift up fuel filter, when disconnecting it, it may squirt a bit of fuel around, prepare for this

suck out dirty black fuel (i used a lil shot glass haha)

replace w/all the rubber components

done!

fairly easy, pretty simple, takes about 15 mins

Have you replaced the filter? I am having a problem putting the locking ring back on. It starts to thread but then pops off. Any ideas?

I've not done it. Just seen the access panels when doing a rear-seat delete.

That is the set of instructions I have followed EXCEPT the part at the end that says "screw on the locking ring". It sounds simple but I have been trying to do this for an hour now. The SOB wont tighten on! It gets a little tight then pops off.

Unless you're putting extremely suspect gas into your Mini (which I hope you're not...) there is no point in changing the filter that often. I usually change them between 75k to 100k, and I have never seen one that was dirty even in that interval.

Not necessary, but wouldn't it be fun?

I am not sure why but when i went back (for the 10th. time) and took the filter out and reapplied all of the seals (fixing the inner large oring that fell off) the bloody thing screwed in with ease. Maybe it was the oring---I dont know - just glad that I will not need to do this for a VERY LONG time!!!

That's great.... I'm planning on doing this here shortly. Probably at 40,000 miles which is less than 2000 away... I'll post if something is tricky.... thanks!
