Extended Maintenance Offer 6/100 for $2200

The price may have gone up since then. I found this out by calling around to various dealerships around the country, and was able to use this info to negotiate my dealership back down to the $1395. Any dealership will sell you this policy, so if you find one that'll do so at a lower price than your dealership (probably due to competition, NY/NJ dealers are willing to sell to folks outside of their area) you can either buy there or use that info on your dealership.
Otherwise, concur with comments above - if you aren't a do-it-yourselfer, and you're going to keep the car for a while, it is probably a worthwhile purchase. I'm going to eat up 100K miles before the 6 years, so it is worth it for me personally.

I more than likely won't be picking up my new MC until Wednesday but I already talked to the finance guy and he was talking to me about the Extended Maintenance warranty - the service extension to 6 yr - 100k. Moritz price... $2200.

Is it true I can purchase from any dealership for possibly less as stated in the quote above? If so, I wonder if Moritz would negotiate???

I figured out the fine print after I bought that thing, for $1400.

You're basically getting a set of brakes for $1400.
It's kinda high.

If you look at the official intervals all the real stuff you would
want to do much earlier are at 100,000.01 miles.

Like spark plugs, O2 sensors, transmission service, etc etc etc.

I've yet to have somebody on this site or anywhere else really
confirm that I'm getting anything more than a set of brakes.
And I don't drive it hard so maybe that just comes down to front brakes
pads, no rotors.

Yeah, definately going to be the most expensive set of pads in history.....

Just something to think about read the small print, the print they
give you after you buy, before you buy it.

$1,798 at my dealer (Schomp, Denver).

Whatever happened to the SM extension from 3/36 to 4/50 for about $500? When I asked my MA about that he looked at me like I was on drugs..

See if that's warranty and maintenance. If it's just one or the other, laugh. That's ridiculous. If it's both, it's reasonable since you're getting the warranty extended out to 6/100 and the maintenance as well. Personally I figured the maintenance for three years wouldn't cost me as much as the amount they wanted (1400$), and the warranty I got through my credit union covers me from day one with no deductible (I do believe the extended MINI warranty is a 100$ deductible plan if it's the same thing that Liz got on her MC) and was about 200$ less than what my dealer wanted (1600$ for 6/100 warranty vs 4/50).

So basically, if you were to buy both options from my dealer, you'd look at 3K total for everything to 6/100. If you can get the same deal for 2200, then it may be worth looking at. All personal preference though.

It is just for the extended maintenance. Warranty is something totally separate. When he told me I looked at him like he as crazy. Then he started telling me about the things not covered under the 4/50 warranty - like brakes and rotors, etc.

Yeah... laugh at him. Honestly, do you think this stuff is going to fail in the 2 years it's not covered? That's 1100$/year. C'mon now. Brakes and rotors will not cost that much to replace.

In fact, with that kind of slap in the face, I'd go to the manager and explain how astounded you are that you'd see such a ridiculous 83% markup and ask him to explain how they came to that number.

Edit: Actually, better idea. The manager from my dealer is looking into it, and he believes you could buy that from any dealer and Moritz would still have to do the service. So if you're really interested in it and can't get the price down, there's another option.

Well I am one the people [idiots?] that bought it. I see more than just a brake job in the 66,000 miles. Possible clutch. Probably two brake jobs and the routine maint, a battery. I will probably break even on it but I will not have to put that huge cash layout when these items occur.

Maybe look into AAA. I have it, and for the $90 or so a year, it has more than paid for itself. I believe you get unlimited tows up to 100 miles..not a bad deal. 1 tow and you already paid for the cost of the program.

I was able to deal my extended maintenance warranty and windshield replacement (I had lots of cracks on my 04) for a total of 2,000 for my 07 MCS.

PtKelley - just call around to some other dealerships (esp in NY/NJ area) and ask the finance officers what they charge. First, I'm almost certain they'll offer you extended maintenance at a price a lot less than $2200. Second, most are willing to sell you the plan from long distance if you send them your key so they can verify current mileage. Once you find a dealer willing to sell at a lower price, go back to your dealership and just tell 'em what you plan to do, and ask if they can match the price. If they can't, go ahead and send off your key! $2200 is way high. Keep in mind clutch IS one of the included items under the extended maintenance plan.

I know how I am though. More than likely I won't keep the car over the 50K mark anyway (I really only keep cars about 3 years). If I absolutely LOVE my car I may keep it, but will I have the option to purchase the Extended Maintenance offer later???

So long as there is still manufacturer warranty remaining, yep.

I would check with your dealership to see exactly when your ability to extend your MAINTENANCE plan expires, but as I understand it, the following is valid:
"To be eligible for the MINI Maintenance program upgrade extension, your MINI needs to be within the 3 year/36K mile free scheduled maintenance. However, if the vehicle is less than 5 years old and it has between 36,001 miles and 60,000 miles it may also be elligible for the upgrade. (Check with your MINI dealer for details)."

Remember, a lot of dealers will give you an adjusted amount back (especially if never used you could possibly get the whole amount back). Don't forget, a car covered to 100,000 miles with free oil changes and brake jobs and even clutch is an amazing selling point to anyone looking to buy

Personally, I fell in love with the car so I cannot imagine selling it off to anyone else. I plan on keeping it well into the 100,000s, but I am highly considering the extended maintenance, but I have until 3yr/36,000 miles to decide

I just picked up my Mini,
They tried to get me to purchase the extended warranty for an additional $2300.

Here's why I said no.

Currently my Mini is covered for 4 years, the extended warranty they were trying to sell me is $2,300 to extend for an extra 3 years (although they word it as a "7 year warranty" ...it's really just an extension of 3 years).

So, in the first 4 years my Mini is covered, ...what i'd be paying for is $2,300 to cover anything in the next 3 years. I figure anything needing replacing is going to cost less than $2,300 and my guess is I'll not need to replace more than one thing if any in that 3 year window. I'd rather keep that $2,300 in my pocket and use it for a repair "if" I need one in that 3 year window.

I've owned several cars for 10 years or more and none had any issue until they began hitting the 175,000 mile mark and 15 years in age. I'll bet that my Mini will be running great at 5,6 and 7 years of age and probably only have 50k miles w/ the low miles I drive.

I only see the warranty making sense if you drive a LOT of miles.
