I just purchased my first Mini in June. I am approaching 2,000 miles and would like to do the first oil change soon. I'm not familiar with the turbo and was wondering if there is a posting anywhere to walk me through the first change. The dealership is 60 miles away so it would be cost effective for me to do my own. Thanks in advance and great site!

They beat me to the punch, I was searching for that thread to give you. It is very detailed, although nothing new. Drain oil, open reservoir, unscrew filter cap, let drain the rest of the oil, take out old filter, replace with new one and screw cap back on, replace gasket on oil pan plug, screw it back on, fill out with 4.5 qts. of Castrol!

Hi ....My car just passed the break-in period. My questions:
Do you really have to change the oil?
Do you really have to use Mini or BMW oil or any equivalent oil will do?
If the oil still looks clean, do you have to change the oil filter?

I hate to be redundant but you should really do a search for "oil change" and see what comes up. All of these questions have been asked and answered since the R56 was released over a year ago.

Got my first oil change at 3400 miles, just couldn't wait until another 13K....peace of mind baby. Now that the break-in oil is gone I'll try to stick to the Mini maint. schedule.
