R56 What to do before big trip with new MC
obc was reset. Texas Hill Country was hilly, the rest of Texas and a sliver of New Mexico was flat, Colorado straight up i25 varied of course. AC all the way mostly sixth gear with some long stretches of cruise control. If you can get close to 40 mpg in an MCSC, I want to go to your driving school!
Did you reset the OBC before begining your trip?
I only ask because your MPG sounds a bit low, unless you were treking through the mountains and driving in 4th gear.
Could be that I'm used to the flat land readings but I got closer to 40 mpg on my recent trip to Florida (no mountains there).

Our very first 300 miles, driving back from Arlington after taking delivery, was our mileage personal best. Even with the extreme and frequent speed variation, we got 33.1 mpg as per on board computer. Hand calcs then and ever since show it to be between 1 and 1.5 mpg on the optimistic side.
For a loaded down MCS convertible, old school supercharged engine, AC on alll the way, I think 30-31 mpg is pretty good.
Can I do better?
We do a lot of miles, all over the US. All the suggestions posted are great. Yes, a small fire ext is a good idea. I wouldn't carry a gas can though. Even though I have MINI road service, I have found my cell-phone add-on road service to be outstanding. Fantastic response, covers any vehicle you are in, and only about $4/month.
Also, we find covering long distances goes best when we switch driving every 3 hours, before the driver starts to get tired.
