I thought about playing off that blown motor like it was actually me that did it, all in the name of science. Then thought, "nah, they'll never listen to me again if I do something like that."

I thought this was how you warm up the engine properly.

Well, I bet there are one or two of you who saw my post from another message forum about the following

Several years ago i was in the UK to go to the docks to retrieve two american vehicles that I had shipped over to my business partner here in the UK. We went to southampton docks and saw them unloading 2 trailers of new MINIS to go to america, they all had stickers in the windows naming the dealerships they were going to. I believe this was quite early in mini production so 2002-2003. One driver was very cautious and driving the minis off the transporter and parking them in the parking slots to be taken to the parking garage where they store cars before the ship arrives. The other driver was going on and on about how crap the cars where and german this and german @#%^@ that (seemed a bit pee'd off they were not built in the UK) and was redlining the cars the whole trip off the hauler and across the parking lot. The engines were bouncing off the rev limiter and coughing up tons of black smoke. The thread on the other mini (classic) website got thousands of hits and came to the attention of BMW employees and I had heard it was researched to find out who the driver was. There was myself and three others there who saw it all and the other driver was saying what a jerk the other driver was who was abusing the cars.
Thus from my experience they just bounce off the rev limiter.

Wow that really is disappointing. It's amazing how little respect some people can have for other's property. I'd be really saddened if that happened to my car and then the engine failed or something happened out of warrantee, but because the engine wasn't broken-in properly. That would be nice to have the dealer tell you the max RPM it's hit before taking delivery.

I think it is safe to assume the other driver is now working somewhere else.
