R56 I guess I should not have...
I guess I should not have...
Yesterday when i was out on the road for my job, i passed by a local Mini dealer. I looked down at my watch and it was lunch time, so I figured I would pass my lunch hour looking at some Mini`s.
NOT a good Idea! I am in love, MORE than before!
I went inside and asked if I could have a brochure and I started looking around the Mini. I mean its all nice and dandy to come online at NAM and look at pictures and read up on different things, but TOUCHING one in person.... O M G!
I started saying to myself... Humm, the back seat looks cramped, I opened the trunk and said " What TRUNK? " there is NO room back there, This is when I noticed that this thing if really small (Mini). I then started to ask myself if this is what I really wanted as a next car.
My answer was 100% YES!
I didnt talk to any salesman because I didnt want to take up their time since I was only window shopping and my lease on the car I have now is only due up next summer (2009).
Now all I have to do is..... Convince the wife that having a Mini is a GOOD THING with a 5 year old and a 1 year old, and I have to SOMEHOW convince the dealership to not charge me a deposit because that for my wife is a TURN-OFF and she refuses to give the dealer a deposit (If we were to get a Mini we would be Leasing it for 3 years)
Well I still have a year to daydream and convince the Mrs. but I should have NEVER gone there. Now I eat, sleep, think, dream, breath the MINI!!!
Thanks for Listening!
Kirk.

You're hooked. The Clubman does have more back-seat room, so perhaps you should look at that model as well. All MINIs are built solid like tanks. Excellent for transporting the kids. Oh, and that's not a trunk at the rear, it's a boot. You'll soon learn the Brit lingo, like bonnet for hood, head lamps for headlights, etc.
Over a cup of afternoon tea, talk about the MINI's bulldog sturdiness and stress safety. And excellent gas mileage. And don't forget to give her flowers.

I had to wait three years until my wife finally told me to just order one so I would shut up about it. I agree with everyone that the Clubman is the way to go with kids. I know someone in our club with three kids and they are very happy with their Clubman and they had a blast at the Dragon with it.
Oh, and my wife's MINI is on order... MINI fanaticism is contagious

Yes, i saw the clubman, but its the pricetag that scared me.
Its 489.49$ a month to lease with NO options, so its a little bit out of my price range.

Years
of wanting one here.
I did tire kicking when the Mini was brought back onto the scene, but couldn't convince the Hubby that we would love to have one. He considered it a tin can.
I finally got to order mine in mid 2007.

It's like "touching" but without the 'H." It's a little bit less sensual. When you're touching someting you're going for the full pleasure of the experience. But when you're toucing something you're holding back a little so as to not get too caught up in the experience. Your question is a fair one, to be sure, as I think that they way Kirkz24 used it above he was probably doing more than toucing.
I live right around the corner from the MINI dealership and so I understand the temptation brought about by seemingly innocent visits. Fortunately, I can say that ordering an ultimately-perfect-for-me MINI was a good antidote for the wandering eye. Doesn't work for everybody though....I have stories about that.
we have a 7 year old and a two year old and two 2006 MINIs. You'll be fine, at least you will if your 1 year old is in a front facing seat.
It actually gets better as they get bigger and move into booster seats.
We've used ours (with the kids) for trips to Florida, the Carolinas, etc. You have to pack creatively, but beyond that, it isn't a big deal.
If you do plan to travel and aren't the type that can travel 'light', then get either a roof rack or a trailer hitch with a cargo shelf.

You see how excited I was, even typing I was all bent out of shape!
My typo is now fixed! Thanks.

That's one of the funnier posts I've seen on this board.
Same thing happened to me on March 31. Except I ordered the next day and have been enjoying the ride since May 12. The new has worn off all previous cars within a couple of weeks. I can honestly say I am still turning and looking at it everytime I get out of it. It's CRAZY!
How funny..I went and drove a MCS on my lunch break, ended up ordering one 2 weeks later and decided to turn my 335i in at lease end instead of purchasing it...and boy do I LOVE my 335...so that says something. Do it, you won't be sorry
+1 on the clubbie...
If you want the best performing family econo sports car, get the clubman. But if you want better performance you might want to forgo the moon-roof. I love my clubbie but would order a manual (w/ LSD or possibly JCW) without moon-roof if I had to do it again. The long wheel base is alot smoother ride IMO.

Wow, congrats! She is beautiful cutters68!
The Mini i have been shopping around for is the Mini Cooper Classic. Here in Canada we have a base model Mini with 15 inch mags, and the only option you have is front fog + rear fog + heated seats for $600 and the automatic transmission. You can't even change the color of the top of the car, it comes standars with the same color as the body.
I always enjoyed the look of the Oxygen Blue, but i saw the Pepper White Cooper Classic.....
VERRRRY Nice.

Unfortuanatly the Clubman is out of my league. Just to give you an idea, im looking more towards the Mini Cooper Classic at $23 000
I wanted a MINI since the 1st Gen Minis first came to the states. Had a Subaru then that was only 3 years old and running great so decided I'd wait a few years. Zipping forward another 6 years after building countless Minis on the configurer... I finally gave into a whim and dropped into the dealership for test drive. Ended up ordering 2 days later.
It's been 3 weeks now and am thrilled with my MINI!!
Hope your wife falls in love too! Perhaps you could take her out to dinner and a test drive? The MINI is pretty hard to refuse once you've been behind the wheel.

I just purchased a used 2007 MCS with two thousand miles on her last month
. I got it for the fun of driving a Mini and to carpool to work in it. I only drive it two week each month to work and tool around town in it on the weekends. My wife is now driving it on the weeks I don’t. She now wants her own Mini and it looks like we’re going to order a new Clubman for her. I never knew that there is an addiction called “Mini-itice”. So we will become a two Mini household. The Minis are replacing an Infiniti I30 and a Chrysler Crossfire SRT6.

You made me laugh when you mentioned the Mini configurer.... im GUILTY also. I think i have like 10 built in my Garage on the mini website.
I think most of us just simply wore down our significant others on the MINI idea. Like Red Dragoon said - stress the safety features, and don't forget the flowers. The MINIverse is an absolute addiction: take her for a test drive once you've hammered home the safety features and gas milage, and you can see she might be waivering even a LITTTLE... Good luck!
Mine went on the test drive with me and I insisted that he drive after I got out. Once he drove Viola... he was hooked. He is absolutely in love with my little car and has his eyes on a Clubman S, and if we hadn't just bought him a new car, he'd probably be ordering one.
Have her test drive it after you get out. Make sure that she watches the glee on your face as you drive it, and then let her take the wheel. She won't be able to tell you no.
Oh, and with gas peaking at over 4$ a gallon where I am, I agree that you might wish to point out to her that you know at least one MINI owner that is getting 30 mpg and that's with CITY driving, my highway driving is so little as to be non-existent. My husband is kicking himself over the mpg that his CR-V gets now...

Ill just have to get her in the car for a test drive

Is that even legal in Canada?
