Most people use a hairdryer to soften the adhesive, then either slowly pry off - sometimes they come right off - or use some dental floss and work it around the base of the emblem slicing through the adhesive. Then adhesive remover.

the logos have two pegs to center them. if you are replacing them it should not matter.

so are you saying to skip the floss and just tug gently or go the floss route even though there are pegs

I was referring only to the 'Cooper S' emblem on the boot lid. No pegs on those. I didn't know there were pegs on the Mini logos - that's surprising.

I just did this this past weekend. Get some fishing line, slide it under one of the wings and start to 'saw' through the double sided tape. Work through one side and then switch to the other. Just envision two pegs right under where it says "MINI' and when you get up to that point, you should be good!

Its the same type of tape they use on the COOPER and COOPER S logos on the boot.

Took me 2 minutes start to finish to get the emblem off, then about 10 minutes to get the gunk off of the car. Simple.

Did you talk to Lyle, I heard they discontinued the custom emblems. Post pics when you get the chance

I heard from Vinyl Styles today and he said they are still doing the blackout of the wings, just not custom orders at the moment. I just painted mine this week and slapped them back on yesterday. Simple enough in my opion. Some will say that the paint will chip/fade/etc. Nothing a little retouch can't do, and I may just end up getting a pair of wings from VS anyways just to have as spares.

Here Calie before the mod (my Joey mod pic actually):

Warm it up with a hair dryer and then use a plastic squeege (like a body filler spreader) to work it loose.

Where do you get the adhesive (tape?) to reattach after painting? What type/thickness is best?

Haidryer/heat gun+floss+Goo Gone, that being said debadging is ok, rebadging is silly (except when just changing color) JMHO.

But you can get adhesive tape at any auto parts store, get 3M.

Any auto parts store should have some double sided tape. 3M makes the best stuff.

Er, if you don't rebadge your MINI emblems you're left with two holes in the front and back of your car.

I think he meant, in lieu of painting in place, perhaps?

How would you fill in the holes to paint over them?

I was talking in general (ie. people who change their cooper to R56 etc. and other makes that do it), but those can be easily filled and painted if you wanted. I was talking in theory though, I'm just not a big fan of rebadging in general, debadging is OK.

Anyone have an idea how much it would cost to get the holes in the hood plugged and repainted? And anyone have any body shop recommendations in or around Orange County? Thanks.
