R56 Would you get the Cooper S, were you to do it again?
Anthony314 brings up a good point. If there weren't different types of drivers, everyone would drive the same car. People are looking for different things when driving. Otherwise, how do you explain the PT Cruiser? (just joking for you PT Cruiser lovers out there)
First, there is a finite performance limit you can extract from a car on the public roads, or as Anthony said "the NYPD will soon catch up to me."
An S will get you to that point in a very great hurry, with not much skill involved. A Justa will take longer to get to that point and you have to put more into doing it.
I find the Justa is more satisfying for that reason, and I get to compare the S with the Justa anytime I want. (Though I wish the S was out of the break in period to really test this.) How much is your input, vs how much is the car's capabilities, the S is an immensly capable car. We finally got Shawn onto a twisty mountain road last weekend. The S's torque band is so wide I hardly had to change gear at all. Doing the same thing in a Justa involves a lot more shifting.
If you're in an environment where the performance limits are higher, such as on the track, your argument might be valid. I intend to test that theory as well.
Also I must be weird, I don't find I miss the power when I'm in the Justa, I do notice it takes a bloody long time to get to the next shift point though.
I'm still of the opinion its not a question of a better driving experience, just different.
we all have our own perseption of what a "fast" car is. Ive always owned street rods, muscle cars with 400+ H.P. so the cooper S in stock trim even felt a little slow for me,(although more fun to drive) which is why I bought a modded one.
It is still not fast enough for my tastes so I am in time going to add a cylinder head and ECU.
I like to go really fast. I also plan on racing autox with this car in the near future as well. which is why I made the point that if you want to upgrade in the future it is more beneficial to buy the S.
after all, we all feel the "new car" that we just purchased is so fast and peppy, till a few months later, then we dont feel the car is as peppy as when new.
