iPod Mounting

Does anyone know if the extra compartment in the dash board is deep enough to mount an iPod dock?

Thanks,

sd

are you referring to the "secret compartment" in the dash where I guess the CD changer would go? It's not very tall so the dock would have to lay on its side, and I don't think that would work, would it?

You might also check over at the Nav/Audio forum. I've got a post over there about the possibility of routing extension cables up to the "secret compartment" to be able to hide the iPod and no dock would be required.

That is where the iPod Integration puts the iPod. How were you considering connecting the iPod?

I have a dock for my Nano in my current 06 MCS. I'd like to take it with me when my 08 MCSa gets here in about 3 weeks. I don't like the idea of having the Nano rattle around in the secret compartment.

It doesn't rattle around because the long cord sort of holds it snuggly in place. I've never had a scratch on it, or my iPod Touch while it was in the compartment.

There is a foam material that is sold for lining mechanic's tool box draws to keep tools from clanking around. It comes in a roll of dark grey perforated foam. Works well to keep things from sliding around in the secret compartment, and in the door compartments.

If your dock from the '06 is the stock OEM iPod dock from MINI, I don't think it will fit on the newer MINIs. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Mine is an aftermarket dock that is only about 4 inches deep. Does anyone know the actual depth of the secret compartment?

Thanks,

sd
