Spare tire on an 08 Mini Cooper with 16" RunFlats

My sister is buying a new Cooper (I really tried to talk her into an S but...)[/SIZE]
She is going to go with 16" run flats but wants to ditch them eventually, but she is concened about the lack of a spare...
Questions:
1. Does an 08 MC come with a jack and does the spare go up in the cavity under the rear of the car like in the 02 to 06?
2. If that is where the spare goes and you order 16" run flats, is the mechanism that holds the spare part of the car or does it need to be ordered? If it needs to be ordered, does anyone know the part numbers?
3. On the older cars 02-06, a Honda Civic Spare would bolt up, is that still the case? If not does Tire Rack or someone sell a spare?
Thanks in advance, Michael

If you get the 16" wheels do you not get the spare? I know the S's don't because of the exhaust location, but does ordering the runflats on a MC negate the spare? Good question to ask the MA. Bummer that you would bay extra for the larger wheels then have to spend to get a spare.

AFAIK, a spare comes with the MC no matter what size tires you order on the car. And I believe all MINI's come with runflats (except for maybe 15's). Check with your MA.

You'll need a ladder to get in the door.

I recall a thread with this same question. The guys MA told him the same thing if you get the run flats with a MC you get no spare.

Well he showed pictures of his spare. So his MA was wrong.

edit ; found the link

No spare on my '08 MC w/17" runflats. Maybe it depends on the size of tires you order.

Duped again ? I hope not . When I ordered my MC . I went with 16 " run flats thinking it was coming with a spare. Based on this link . I thought I covered my concerns about it being under the boot.
You think this is something that changed in 08 . So BMW could ring up some more profits.
I hate accountants.

I have an '07 with 16" run-flats and I have a spare and a jack. I also thought it was the exhaust system on the S that prevented the mounting of a spare.

It's not accountants. It may be physicists. Two pieces of matter can't exist in the same space. And the runflats probably cost more than the spare would. Especially if you've got the 17"s that we currently are driving on our '06. (never making that mistake again - $400 per tire)

Yours can be explained by Physicists. -------because you have the S .

Mine is just a MC it does have the space for the donut spare. So mine is explained by accountants.

Either by 15s and get the spare, then upgrade to aftermarket wheels and tires or order 16s and buy the spare. I've seen the spare on minimania for around 230.

That would be the new MINI Dirtman earth mover.

If it doesn't have a spare, you can carry a Slime compressor for $25-$80. Get a flat -- plug the compressor into the cigarette outlet, open the Slime valve, and pump up the tire. I can't think of a situation where that wouldn't save you as well or better than a runflat. The disadvantage is that you have to get out and attach the pump. In foul weather, that would be a disadvantage, but it would be offset by better ride and lower cost of the non-runflat.

Well, I never expected mine ('08 MC, 17" crown spokes) to come with a spare so I don't feel duped. But I might be if I had 16" wheels and found out that someone with the same setup did get a spare. Must be some reason that some MCs w/16" RFTs have the spare and some don't.

Maybe this has to do with the fact that you have a Canadian model (MC - no spare) and the others have a US model (MC - with spare)?

There are differences between countries, but actually I was referring to leicaguy and Hubs, who are both in the US, both with an 08 MC and 16" RFTs, but it sounds like only one of them got a spare, which seems odd.

I have a 2008 MC with 16's, runflats, and a spare with jack and is US model. My MA told me that all MC in the states come with a spare, its the S that doesn't. Gotta love our MA's and the info they do/do not have

Thanks! So her MA is incorrect! Is the spare inside or underneath the car?

BTW the slime kit is exactly what I do on my S. Never a problem...

Doesn't the Slime gunk up the new TPMS sensors and thus requiring you to buy a whole new one ($$) along with a new tire?

The new TPMS schema sucks abnormally sized particulated spheroids.

Another fun tidbit: the Clubman S has the space for a spare, but they're too cheap to give you one.

Where is there a space for one?

her MA confessed to her error. 16" Run Flats on a MC do have a spare underneath.
