So SWMBO is going to be ordering her MINI before the end of the month and I'm trying to convince her that specific summer and winter rubber is the way to go.

Unfortunately I'm having a hard time find a set of cheap winter steelies for her.

I've found these but... it seems that they are for a Cooper S 'vert.

Is anyone here running these on an R56?

Hmmm they might fit....but my guess is that they won't since they are 15's and you have the Cooper S which has the larger brakes. Steelies usually aren't so great for big brake fitment.

Doesnt the dealer now sell 16" steelies? I know the 15" steelies are like $38 a piece.

As long as it has a 4x100 bolt pattern the wheels will mount up. I'm not too sure about whether or not those will clear the new R56 brakes, that might take some measuring.

Thanks for all the quick answers. I'm sure more are on the way. I also have plenty of time to figure out a good economical solution.

Ideally I'd like to find some 16 inchers, I definitely don't want to deal with caliper clearance issues.

Have her order the 16" All Season tires. Then order aftermarket Summer wheels/tires later. That way the car will look good all year long rather than crappy with steel wheels in the winter.

We're going for best performance coupled with economy. Buying new alloy wheels (or take-offs from NAM) would end up being more expensive in the long run (especially with getting the generally sharty OEM all-seasons).

This is Chicago man... salt and potholes are the order of the day during winter. Fat tires and cheap steelies (steel in this application absorbs impacts MUCH MUCH better than aluminum wheels which tend to deform or crack).

Thanks for your opinion but she'll be going with summer rubber and snow tires on steelies.

In my look this past fall, I didn't find anything in a 16" steel wheel for the r56. I ended up going with bottom of the line hot wheels rims from discount tire. They held up just fine.
