Ugh! NY Tint law is 70%!?

I was going to call and have tints done this weekend - but what is the point if the law calls for a max of 70%? Does anyone have any photos of what that looks like?

edit: sorry - I meant 70% as in that much light has to go through!

Stock tint is 70% right????

I shouldn't say anything though...TINT of any kind in the front driver or passenger window is illegal. Cali is the anti-car-mod state

Uhhh...70% means the tint lets in 70% of sunlight...LIMO tint is like 5%...which means it lets in 5% of sunlight

Hahah tint's work the other way Glen....the lower the number, the darker the tint.

The percent represents the amount of light being let in. Limo tint is considered 5% for this reason.

I personally think 70% would look classy....it's enough to give the windows a nice smoked appearance, but it won't look SUPER dark and aggressive. I run 50% and I really like the smoked look.

They apply it over the stock, so it'd let in 70% of the 70%, and you'd end up w/ (IANAMM) 49% tint.

(That is assuming that stock is 70% to begin with.)

I have a hard time believing that our stock tint is 70%....I'm pretty sure you'd notice it then.

My suggestion is to just go to the tint place and see for yourself. They usually have a bunch of samples of each percentage on Plexiglas to show you how dark it will be.

I have never heard that the back is restricted in any way. Go 5%, and run 50% or higher on the rest. It is different enough that you won't get pulled for it. I have done this on my cars here in the SF Bay Area since 1987. The only time I got pulled was in my mini truck back in the day when I tried running the 5% on the fronts, and I think that was because they wanted to hassle the mini truckers. I see BMWs and Mercedes all the time with 5% all over.

So actually does have any pictures of 70% or maybe 50% ? I live in bumf**k NY and am about to get mine done. I kind of wanted to have the front ones done slightly lighter, but read it might look unfinished. Can anyone help a new mini owner trying to pimp out her mini? I would like to go with a nice tint all the way around but I'm not really interested in it being too dark. Help!!
