What year/model gets REAL mpg

I am just getting into the MC thing and got a BIG question?? I know MPG isn't the first a Mini owner thinks of, BUT, what do they really get? Which A/T combo gets the best and lastly can an older MC get as good for less$$. Just looking for the most fun for the buck! Thank

I've got six full tanks under my wheels on an 08 MC and the worst I've averaged (calculated at pump, not OBC) is 37. Best is 39.5. Most common is 38. 70/30 hwy/city. Avg 75 on hwy. Tend to shift around 2k; occ. 3k. Have taken her to red line a few times, but generally not. No a/c, yet.

Picked up Calie (08 MC) two weeks ago yesterday and do 80% city driving or so. Average around 25 mph (what the OBC tells me) and after the first fill up averaged 29 spot on. This was hand figured, OBC was a little optimistic at 31, but with 'MINI Love' in full swing and just breaking it it, I'm more than happy. Beats the previous car I was driving by 8 mpg, will most definantly do better on the open roads.

My 03 MC consistently gets 30 around town and just measured 36.7 mpg on a hilly highway trip.

I have just over 18K on my 07 MCS 6 Speed. I drive about 1/2 highway, shift between 3K and 4K and I'm averaging ~30mpg.

That's twice the gas mileage that our jeep gets! Guess which car we take on road trips?

I think my mpg is due to driving gently most of the time. I don't mean like grandpa. Shift at 2-3k, easy accel most of the time. MPG does include some playfulness, some jackrabbit starts through four gears, but most of my fun comes from pushing the limits on curves and corners, not straight-away accel and raw speed.

On my new '08 MCS 6 speed automatic I drive 98% local (city) and with the a/c on(Florida heat) and just 263 miles on the odo for my first fill up it was 20.7 MPG calculated where the OBC was 25.4 MPG average which is a bit on the optimistic side. After the initial break in period (1200 miles) it will certainly improve a lot over that though.

All MINI's get REAL mpg. You will probaby find that the mc with stick will achieve the highest mpg. Optimal results will be dependent on the driver's right foot. At 9221 miles I have averaged 35.50473285 mpg in my 07 mc with auto.

I've had my '08 MC manual for almost two weeks. Driving mostly in the city and burbs I saw 33.8 mpg (hand-calculated) on the first tank and the OBC says I'm averaging 34.6 mpg on the second. Looking forward to getting it on the highway and trying for 40+.

Maybe it should be...it is a Mini after all.

The best mpg will come from an R56 manual Cooper. I get 38-40 mpg from mine consistently in city driving. If I really try, I can get 42 mpg (OBC). The R56 Cooper has a different engine and 6-speed gearbox than the first gen car that can yield very good results.

However, any model Cooper will generally out-perform an MCS in mpg....and quite a few other cars, too. My '03 Cooper got in the low to mid 30s in city driving.

It depends if im really attentive and consumption conscious (dont have cruise control) on the highway i can get 38 mpg cruising at 70. If im passing people and trying to make time i get 32. Around town i get 28/29 if im just putting around. If i am cruising the backroads banging it through the corners at 40-90mph i still get above 20mpg.

Just over 1300 miles and on my 4th tank. Hand figured mileage is right at 30 MPG on my MCS. I drive about 60/40 highway/city. I keep TRYING to see how good I can get driving conservatively but I get overcome by events on the road and my foot seems to get heavy

I've had Winston for 1.5 weeks...Not counting the initial tank of fuel...My freeway driving: 30-32 mpg.

City Aggressive: 24-25.

Not bad...as my old car was 25 mpg freeway.

I'm pretty consistent at 28.5 - 29 mpg hand calculated on non-winter gas in my 06 MCS manual doing about 60% highway, 40% city with a bit of stop and go traffic. Highway road trips have netted me about 32-33 mpg. I do try to drive as conservatively as possible on my daily commute.

Hoping I'll manage around 32-33 mpg on my commute and 34 - 36 on road trips in my R56 MCS manual once it's delivered and broken in.

Edit: 99.9% of the time I'm burning Shell V-Power 93

2008 MCS, Manual, 85% highway at 80mph and 2500 miles on the ticker: 28.8mpg average. Trying to avoid sport mode and a heavy foot. Sport mode robs about a mile per gallon.

Fuels are different around the country, California get 91 octane as opposed to 93 elsewhere.

R53 6 Speed, consistent average 29.5. The best ever...39 mpg on flat highway at 55mph. The worst...14 mpg flying up a 9% mountain grade at 80 mph, passing everything.

07 MCS manual. If I am incredibly OCD, and do not care what speed I am going (maintaing throttle at the same point whether below the speed limit while climbing a hill, or above it when on the other side) I can actually get around 36 on the freeway. But that's not realisitc. Not for me, or the rest of traffic.

When I drive like a sane human, I average around 33.5, when I drive like I prefer (Not nuts, but not sitting behind anyone for real long time), I get around 31.5. I'm not sure how to estimate my percentage of city/hwy driving, but my average speed is 41 and some change.
