You should drive an S in sport mode! 
I still have not quite figured out the whole sport thing...
yes there is a button.. and yes I get much better throttle response.. the shift pattern changes and my Cooper Clubman.. just flies!!...
and there is putting the auto trans into "manual" mode.. it lights up the sport setting.. but I think I get slightly different response from the car.. but I don't know for sure.
The dealer seems to think that the button and the shifter do slightly different setups.. but I cant get a real answer..
All I know is that with the sport mode turned on.. I don't need an S...

How does the Sport Button work and why would the car have two modes? It seems to me, if the car drives so much better with it activated, then why would someone not drive with it on all the time.
Does the Sport Button reset to OFF when the car is turned off?
If so, is there a way to permenently "hardwire" so the button is always on?
If one does not order this option, can the Sport Button software be added and activated permenently?
I'll be ordering my car the end of this year. It's not the cost of the Sport Button. I just think it is dumb to have two different throttle and steering maps when I'll only be using one. Besides, how many grams will the extra wire and button add to the total weight of the car. I'm not getting the S you know.

I have found that I prefer the non-sport button mode for interstate driving. In sport mode, the steering is very tight. I prefer a little more play at higher speeds ...

I've had my MCS for about a month now and haven't driven it without the Sport Button on.
I love the responsiveness of the accelerator and steering. I almost stall whenever I forget to turn it on.

Yeah, the sport button is pretty cool. I tend to drive with it on all the time. I wish I can set it permanently ON, then turn it off when the situation warrants. Did anyone come up with a hack yet?

then you need to stop beating on your MINI.. the only reason they would be that differant is because your trans shift adaptations are set at a higher point due to you telling the car you wanna go fast. this is a common concern with all MINI auto trans. the fix is to tighten the loose nut behind the wheel 
Exactly. While ideally I would have them drive side-by-side for an extended period, from what I could tell at 70mph for an extended period, the loaner car was at 3200rpms while mine was at 4000-100rpms. Both are the same model year, 07, and both are MCS autos.
Interestingly, the loaner displayed "sport" in the little window of the tach, but mine does not. Mine has the SatNav but loaner doesn't.
