Not sure I understand what you are asking.

I have a MINI Cooper S.

Ooops, thought I would have the option to create a "poll" list of options. Anyone know where the post a poll is located? FAQ says you get the option to select when posting a new thread.

undecided...

Until I find out how to create a vote polling thread:

What do you have and/or recommend:
  1. exterior Color combo - with or without strips
  2. auto or manual xsmission
  3. sport package - a need to have
  4. standard or 17" wheels - differences in ride
  5. any must have options you recommend

1. PS/B I'll be putting after market stripes on when I get around to it. I couldn't see paying extra $$ for the factory ones when there are more choices in the after market.

2. Manual, it's the proper way to drive a mini if you can.

3. No need as far as I'm concerned, the ride is pretty stiff to start with and, again, the after market is the way to go if you are serious about handling.

4. Unless you really like the look I'd get the cheapest set you can from the factory and get a set of much lighter and better looking ones from the aftermarket. You can keep the factories for snow tires or sell them.

5. Sunroof if you like it. Rear fogs to complete the instrument panel (they do come in handy too). DSC to get you out of tricky spots. Cold weather if you like that sort of thing. MSFW for cruise control. Bluetooth/USB prep for well the USB port and the Bluetooth.

  1. CR/ W, no stripes (I do have checkered mirror caps instead of plain white)
  2. Manual
  3. I have the 2007 Sport Package which didn't have the sport suspension, so I can't comment. Do you want stripes/ 17" rims? If not do the suspension ala carte
  4. I have 17", but swapped the factory Crown Spokes for Enkei RS5s
  5. I have the sunroof and really like it, but not everyone does. Any interior colors you think would be nice order (ie: interior, color line etc) because if you don't, you'll regret it. Also I recommend the rear fogs.

Manual
  1. sport package - a need to have
2007 Sport Package: different than 2008. Did not include sport suspension.
  1. standard or 17" wheels - differences in ride
I sold the 17" Crown Spoke wheels & Dunlap runflats. I replaced them with lighter weight CenterLine RPM 17x7, and Rota RB 16x7 both with non-runflat tires. The 16" have a more comfortable ride.
  1. any must have options you recommend
Anthracite Headliner
Rear Fog Lights
DSC
LSD
NAV
Rain Sensing Wipers

1. CR/B MCS with OEM bonnet stripes, which will soon be replaced with aftermarket 'reverse' viper stripes.

2. Auto, though at times I wish I had gotten manual. The next car will be manual. I tend to feel a bit lazy in this car and prefer the improved fuel economy and control of a manual.

3. Considering that I upgraded from an R56 MC to an R56 MCS, the Sport Package was unnecessary to me. The ride is plenty bumpy (fun actually!), the wheels were already bigger, it already had xenons, and it already had the spoiler. No need paying more for a stiffer suspension IMHO.

4. Came with 16" runflats. They've been replaced with 17" Nittos. I haven't noticed a difference in the quality of the ride - the runflat vs. non-runflat negated the larger sized rims. I will say the Nittos suck in water! But that was expected.

5. Butt warmers - what the heck did I do without them for all these years?! I guess having cloth seats before now was a help there. But still, the Cold Weather Package is a great benefit. My car has the piano black colorline, which I like for its effect in the car vs. the standard brushed alloy, but the finger prints suck. Xenons are another option I'll never willingly go without. Even though I'm only 25 and my vision is relatively good, the improved nighttime driving, especially in this rural area, is a tremendous benefit. My car doesn't have a rear fog light, but I wish it did! That dang empty toggle switch gets annoying! And, after this past weekend's trip on the freshly sanded/rocked interstate between Little Rock and Memphis, if I could afford it I'd cover the ENTIRE freaking car in a clear bra. I swear these cars are debris magnets!

What do you mean by "standard brushed alloy"? The standard interior surface is a metal-looking-but-plastic wavy checkered finish. The brushed alloy, which is real metal and quite rough, costs extra.

Ah, well I mean the fake brushed aluminum whatever that comes standard. I didn't think it was checkered though? At least my partner's car and my old R56 MC didn't have checkers in the design.

CR/B with reverse sport stripes

manual

I don't have the sport pkg and don't think I need it...it rides stiff enough as it is, plus I plan on changing out the springs and lowering it anyway

Mine came with 16's and I took them off and put on 17's...love the look it has now

options...I miss the cold weather pkg my 1st MINI had, and rear fogs would have been nice (as would a JCW aero kit)

Well it's not checkered per se, that's just what mini calls it. It's more of a checkered design that's all wavy and distorted in a metallic tones.

thankx for the inputs. I'm most interested in RVExotic's comment. I was originally thinking MCS because of turbo and sport packaging. Now I'm thinking, will the MC really suffice for me.

To RVExotic, since you migrated from MC to MCS, is the powerplant on the MC adequate enough, with auto xmission? I'm going to go back and demo an auto MC, but thought I'd here it first hand from experience rather than a saleperson..

Also, when did the auto xsmission get re-engineered? Reason I'm asking, is that if I decide to go with a used Mini, what is a lastest model year I should start with?

I have the MCa, and IMO it has plenty of power and speed for the regular driver. It can keep up with the best of them.

What do you have and/or recommend:

1.exterior Color combo - with or without strips
Yellow, it's the fastest color. No stripes
2. auto or manual xsmission

Standard Transmission

3. sport package - a need to have

No options except DSC, LSD, save money for aftermarket, buy coil-overs, springs, strut bars, stabilizer, sway bar

4. standard or 17" wheels - differences in ride

aftermarket 18" wheels, much better handling...

5. any must have options you recommend

See number 3. above

But that's just my take on things...

What do you have and/or recommend:
1. exterior Color combo - with or without strips.
Any colour that you like (you have to live with it/her/him). Though Dark Silver is rather attractive. With white roof and stripes of course
2. auto or manual xsmission
Auto is for the living dead (JOKE! Don't get upset auto owners ). There is no fun in auto trans and your legs will waste away into little stick-like things. How can you heal and toe in an auto???
3. sport package - a need to have
Yes, sports susp is a 'must', I also wonder if it be harder to sell without...
4. standard or 17" wheels - differences in ride
My 'S' with sports susp and 17" is now almost as supple as the missus's std Cooper on 16" wheels. That's because my runflats have been replaced with (non-runflat) tyres that actually hold the road in the wet And they improve the ride massively.
5. any must have options you recommend
LSD increases the fun, JCW gear lever **** and steering wheel (alcantra I think? The suedey stuff) transform the driving pleesure, the single best driving-comfort/pleasure mod that doesn't cost the earth.

Unless you're into loads of goodies (that can't be had more cheaply later), have a serious think about whether you think the value will be carried over at re-sale.

This is my 2nd R56 and keeping the spec as basic as poss is the best thing I did. That meant ditching leather and sunroof which were both a waste of money to me. But. You're you - get what you want and enjoy, be proud and post pics.

The 2007 R56 has a different transmission than earlier models.
