MCS random question.

Just had a random question, at night, my car seems significantly faster than during the day. Why? I was under the impression that having a turbo kind of negated the effects of colder air.

As a side note to this question, driving at night, passing someone, I just slightly pushed in the gas (in 6th gear no less) at 80 and ran up to 110 in seconds before I even noticed. During the day any time if I attempt to go over 100 it's like hitting a brick wall, the noise gets really loud, and the car starts to feel like it's really straining. At night, it's quieter, and much easier.

Is this weird? Am I nuts? Is my car strange? Is this normal?

P.S., I have an '07 MCS sport and hypersport.

If I were you I would be looking to uprade the intercooler and the cold air intake, basicly anything to help the air stay cool before it hits the combustion chamber (check out the Alta website) you would also do well to spend some time in the drivetrain/mods area of the forum. there is a lot to learn. I hope you are also using the highest grade gas available.

It's amazing what some cold air does for horsepower.

Could it be that your Air Conditioning isn't running at night? You're in San Diego, right?

One other possibility--your perception might be different. I remember seeing a program about driving in fog, and the remarkable thing was that people had an entirely different "mental image" of the road dashes going by--couldn't estimate their speeds accurately. Yes, I understand about the speedometer, but it still might be the same sort of thing. And there are less distractions for your mind--you are concentrating more on just the car and the road.

Or have you clocked the 0-60 times, day and night?

Day or night, when I'm AT THE TRACK () my MCS has no trouble whatsoever getting up over 100 mph in a hurry! It certainly never feels like it's hitting a brick wall.

i would say a pair of panty hose stretched over the air inlet will give you considerable difference.

Hmm, I am kind of comparing it against my last car, a 540i. The MCS is definately fast, but the 540i is a different catagory on the highway. Still, there are times it's faster and times it's not. I think I solved my problem tonight though... when I put on the heater, the car really picks up some power.

I'd love to but I'm not sure how do that exactly...? A track can't do that right? IIRC they just clock distance times.

I find cold, dense air in the morning (like 5 AM) makes the engine more responsive. I don't know if that makes any difference for force-induction engines, but you might give it a shot and see what happens.
