Very interesting how-to. since I'll probably be replacing the stock wheels and tires any way it looks like I might need to go find a nice safe deserted spot to try these out. Just need to make sure I disable the DSC first.

Very cool!

I was able to do a couple of those 'tricks' once in this huge empty parking lot after a snow, but haven't had a chance since.
That was on the stock RF's though. I'm actually trying to preserve my F1's.

Try with and without the DSC. Still possible but with DSC since rear wheels still stay locked. More difficult but makes it "smoother".

Years ago I worked at a rental car company and had the opportunity to learn those moves delivering cars to clients. Since there were no identifying stickers on the BMWs it became a habit to pull a handbrake U turn in the middle of a big intersection. Timing was everything; wait for the turn lane to clear...build up a little speed... good times.

BMWs and Geo Metros were my favorites...

For handbrake turns, remember to duct tape the handbrake button so the brake cannot lock. Otherwise your turns become stops pretty quickly.

What do you think would happen if you suddenly did one of those moves on a test-drive with the dealer sitting next to you? Better yet, after he changes his underwear back at the dealership tell him. "Thanks. I'll think about it."

wow, i didnt know they rented out BMWs at most rental places. Here is another reason you never buy a used car that at one point in its life was a rental.

Can any of these tricks be done with an automatic tranny?

Yes. Can't accelerate out as nicely afterwards, but you can slide just the same. Simplifies things because you don't have to deal with the clutch and worrying about stalling the car (esp if RWD). Not sure how much shifting to neutral helps. You can try later as you get used to the tricks in a large empty safe and legal environment.
