How do people with big feet manage the clutch

Don't have my Mini yet, but test drove it again for an extended time in an around traffic. My shoe size is 14, and the clutch, brake & gas are so close to each other that I sometimes would partially hit the brake when meaning to use the clutch.

This car was designed for tall people with all the legroom, so why would they place the pedals so close each other and use a tiny gas pedal?

I have 14s and my feet got used to the decrease in space. At first, I hit the brake and clutch at times but no longer. Just don't wear clunky boots.

The pedals being close together is a racing attribute conducive to heel-toe shifting. I have not seen threads where people move the pedals, but it may be possible. Aftermarket may have something. I have seen people relocate pedals on other cars (usually bringing the gas and brake closer together).

It's a problem for me too; I have to wear steel toe boots to work and I'm still learning how not to step on the brake when trying to step on the clutch. I have to be careful how I position my feet and it also makes a difference how high or low I position my seat, the lower the seat, the more my feet get tangled up. Just one of those things...

OK, size 14s are big I understand and I wear a 9, 9.5 depending on the shoe. But I have driven the mini in something similar to these (the style I have is 7 years old and no longer available but the platform is about the same). I also had a 73 Beetle where I drove with those boots too. I can say that the platforms are pretty rough with these pedals. And I don't envy the girls driving with heels.

I wear a 14 and have 38" inseams; the steering wheel doesn't telescope far enough back for me to be able to steer well and have legroom for shifting ---- even with Simpson race shoes.
After my manual car died, opted for an automatic in the replacement car. It just wasn't worth the bashed knees and missed shifts to me.
Simpson, G-Force, Puma, & Adidas all make size 14 driving shoes but you usually have to mail-order them (and no wide sizes). Sports Authority sometimes has the Pumas and Adidas in stock ---- but they're not fire-rated if you're going to race.

I have Piloti shoes (the blue ones on the flash... in size 9.5)
Got them at a DE (driver's Ed / track event)

But I've seen them in several of my local Porsche-only speed shops, the ones who sell helmets, harnessess...

You might also be able to get/modify your pedals to make them farther apart, but I know a few Porsche guys with big feet (size 14 or so) that make their pedals CLOSER for racing to ease heel-n-toe braking/shifting...

These!

I've got 15's and what I do is buy bowling shoes, or at least those that look like them. I find if I use anything wider I've got problems. I also drive a MSCa, it helps. I also have a Beetle (68 Baja) and i find if the shoes aren't right it's tough.

I wore a 9.5 in second grade....

I couldn't get my feet into the wheel-well of a friend's Ferrari; I have a tough time with 911's but can manage. It's more a legroom issue than shoe size when I wear my Simpsons or other driving shoe. My knees hit the steering wheel and the shifter (low gears).

I found some Reebok's that have a narrower exterior ,Vans work also . My feet are wide but some shoes that fit are less clunky ,you just have to try some on .

G-Force
Various Brands, some at decent prices.
I have the Simpson HXT (heat shield & Nomex liner) that I found for $50 in a GM dealership that was getting rid of their race department. They're ugly but so comfortable...

The easiest shoe to get a hold of is probably the Converse All-Stars AKA Chuck Taylors.

I have a similar problem. When I took a 2008 MCS out for test drive today, I kept hitting the gas and brake pedals with my size 13's. Has anyone successfully moved the pedals slightly further apart to ease this problem?

Thanks.

I not only wear a size 14, but I need a wide shoe! I wear flip flops 90% of the time anyways so I just drive barefoot. Slip the flip/flops off and drive. When I wear shoes, I usually go with loafers. They tend to be a little narrower than my Nike cross trainers.

+1 on barefoot. I now wear mostly slip-on shoes, so I can just slide them off when driving.

+1 for barefoot or socks. Just don't put your foot up high on the clutch that your toe contacts the linkage. It transfers heat from the transmission .
