Sun shade creep

Anyone else with the sunroof having this problem?

This isn't the first car I have had with a sunroof and shade in it ( vw beatle didn't have this problem ).

While driving with it partially up, or all the way back, the sun shade starts to creep back. Eventually if left untouched it will work its way almost half way.

If doesn't close all the way either, leaving a small 1/2 gap.

Is this normal?

Checking up here before going to the dealer to see if it can be fixed, I would have though it would click or lock into place when all the way forward.

I had/have the same problem with my sunshade. I took it to the dealer and they fixed the front half. The back half still creeps forward.

Great, so it is fixable.
Calling to schedule it to get fixed now. Its driving me nuts having to keep reaching up and slide it back in place.

yeah it should be covered. I took it on and they ordered the parts and they installed for free. Now they do not creep at all...especially when I accelerate

mine creep but it doesn't bother me enough to want to take it to the dealer. The only thing that really irritates me about the car is the stupid plate that covers the tow hook on the rear bumper pops out every time I hit a bump.

I took mine to the dealer, and they returned my car saying that was normal, and not fixable.

I was pissed, cause it drives me crazy when I have the roof open and the wind blows it back.

They can fix it, they lied. Mine doesn't creep but it leaves a small gap when closed. It does make a little rattle sometimes. I have to move it a little to get it to go away. It sounds like it's coming from the back seat, but it's the shade.

I had the same problem when I bought mine.

Try this, pop out the tow hook cover and then gently bend the large snap post that holds the cover in the out direction. Then gently snap it back in. This fixed mine coming out but it does not fit snug and moves when washing the car but it does not pop out anymore.

This I think is caused by the delivery driver man handling the covers as if you look at that post it looks white (on darker plastic) like it was bent too far.

Had to take mine to the dealer twice. the first time was the back opening, even with the sunroof closed, then the front did the same thing. I would close it and it would open again. Now it has been fixed. According to by SA, MINI has a fix kit for it.

Either they don't know what they are talking about or they don't want to fix it. according to my SA, MINI knows about this problem and they have a fix it kit for the sunshades.

Ive been having the same problem with it slowly creeping open.

I took it to the dealer today and they said it's fixable.

Aparantly after speaking to BMW in Germany the dealer was told that there is a replacement blind with clips in it or something.

So they ordered it for my car and they will hopefully have the parts in a few weeks.

It's amazing what some dealers will say. They don't need to talk to Germany, there's a published service bulletin on this issue. I took mine in Tuesday of this week, they order the new sun shades on Wednesday, and I got the car back yesterday. The new sun shades work great.

Just got mine fixed this week. After hitting a HUGE pot hole up in Youngstown Ohio that required a nice little $150 BMW alignment (OUCH), I asked about the TSB for the windscreen creep.
Global Imports Mini in Atlanta knew about this and repaired it. No more creep even at high speeds. YAHHH!!.
Also the alignment I swear made a huge difference even over when it was brand new. No correcting ever now.

What is the fix so I can tell him!!?

They get new parts to install that will let the sunshade clip to something. Not really sure, as I haven't really looked before they install the parts to see if there is any difference. I can tell that the back doesn't open anymore, the front does ocassionally, but is only when I drive over rough roads.

There probably should be a separate thread for the tow hook cover problem.

When I got my new MCS home from taking delivery, I discovered the rear tow hook cover off. I put it back in, but the next time I drove it, it was out again. In fact, I found that if I put it back in and lightly hit the bumper with my hand it would pop out again. I stopped in at the dealer, the service writer just looked through the drawer of his desk where he had a bunch of the covers in various colors -- so apparently this isn't an isolated problem.....it took him all of 2 minutes, if that, to replace the cover. Didn't even write it up. No problems since then. So no reason to put up with this minor, but annoying, problem.

I had the same creeping sunshades on mine as well. My SA said they release some of the tension in the roller and install rubber stops that give it enough resistance that it stays in position. It's a little harder to pull at first with the fix. They access everything by removing the sunroof glass.

Greetings all,

I was in today for some other service and told them about the shades creeping. The service guys knew exactly what I was talking about and said that there were updated parts to fix this issue, all under warranty.

Here's what the work order said:
BOTH SUNSHADES OPEN WHILE DRIVING-CREEP OPEN
INSUFFICIENT FRICTION BETWEEN THE ROLLER BLIND AND THE
GUIDE RAIL IN THE SUNROOF CASSETTE
REPLACED THE END STOP BUMPPERS IN THE CASSETTE WITH
UPDATED PARTS
SIM 54 04 07
QTY: 4
FP NUMBER: 54-10-7-213-8111
DESCRIPTION: RUBBER BUFFER
I haven't had a chance to really see what all they replaced (it's late now). All I know is that I was driving the car for an hour or so and there wasn't any creeping. Normally, that would have been plenty of time for them to move.

Hope it worked.
We'll see ...

Peace !
Spearsy

Mine doesn't creep, but during the walkthrough before I took delivery, my MA actually made sure to mention that the the gap in front of the closed front sunshade is normal. I imagine they started doing this after getting many questions about it, since it is kind of odd. The excuse I heard is that the wind deflector screen is adequate to provide shade and a debris shield for that front gap. Fortunately the gap is only with the sunroof open; with the sunroof closed the shade covers the whole window (on my Mini anyway).

Both of mine creep as well....ARGH and it drives me crazy. Next time I take it in for service i'll be sure to mention it. Is there a SB for this as mentioned in one of the previous posts? Just in case they tell me there is no fix.
