I would suggest matching to the Mellow Yellow exterior... but that is just me

I don't have any hi-res pics, but may I suggest a satin or flat black over gloss? You'll thank me later when you don't have to clean it every time you touch it because of fingerprints.

Or, to take it a step further, have it wrapped in vinyl so its more durable and less likely to scratch

Awesom! Thanks so much everyone. I have to wait until end of Jan to get them painted b/c the painter is on vacation. Hes going to charge me 100 to do the two dash pieces. If they turn out really good then i'll spring for the door pieces.

lxjose9xl where are you at? Any pics of your MINI exterior? Sound slike a sweet ride. vbmenu_register("postmenu_1985751", true);

Question for you folks with the mellow yellow color line...does it really look the way it does in these pics or is it more of a match with the exterior in reality?

kevin, didn't you retrofit the color line on your vehicle?

Yeah I had the dark grey colorline originally. I bought Spray Paint (Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric Paint Color: Yellow) from NAPA autoparts.

I took the 3 pieces off the dash, took about an hour taking out all the screws etc. Did quite a few coats No need for primer this paint does not need any nor any sanding, just a cleaning of the product your about to paint.

Its a little "brighter" than the stock MY colorline, but I dont think you can tell unless they were side by side. I think the stock MY colorline is more creamy toned down color that isnt exact to the exterior yellow. I didnt paint the door armrests, I though it would be too much but thats my personal taste.

Kevin, I gotta give you props man...I don't think i would have attempted painting my own color line. You are right, your color line is brighther than the MY and not as creamy. I think your yellow is more liquid yellow.

Anyway, why are you trying to do a piano black trim? Does the checkered trim not go well with a MY colorline?

Folks, if you have more pics of your MY color line please post.

BTW, is the MY colorline available to add after build?

Yeah I like the look of the black, the checkered is too greyplastic looking for me. Do you have piano black?

kevin, i don't have my car yet. it is still on the ship. I did not order the MY colorline. i went with the standard checkered and the grey colorline. I never got to see a MY in person, nor did I get to see the colorline in person and I thought it was too risky to order it. I wasn't sure i'd be able to live with the yellow inside the car as it looked really bright on the configurator.

Maybe we should just say that MINI's got a lot of wood.

And it's a very hard wood. It is birdseye maple. The shift handle is one of my Le Mans inspired handles. It is actually quite comfortable for shifting. I drove with a blackwood **** in a similar shape from Carmel Valley to Los Angeles going down Hwy 1. This is the scenic winding road along the cliffs overlooking the ocean. You seen it in numerous car ads.

Unlike the standard ****, you don't rotate your wrist from its position on the steering wheel. The extra height puts it closer to the wheel and makes it easy to grab. I also have shorter versions for those who prefer short shifters.

I've tried cylindrical shapes such as those used on the Mazda 787B at Le Mans, but experimentation with shape variations took me to the more suggestive shapes as more ergonomic.

Here are some captures of the Mazda handle:

I wish I could drive it personally to see how it would feel when I work the shaft. But in all seriousness, it looks really nice. I think my girlfriend would want to drive that car more for sure.

An ergonomic design indeed. I agree it is better to avoid too much wrist rotation, while still making it easier to grab the hard wood ****.
