My understanding is that the auto power-up windows require extra sensors to ensure that passengers' fingers are not accidentally crushed when rolling up the windows. So I don't think that this could be implemented as a software upgrade.

According to my MA it is not. Only the 2008's have pinch protection. Hence, although auto-up could be dealer programed for 2007's, you'll have one heck of a time getting one to.
Perhaps I'll go out to my MINI and see if those sensors are in fact there or not...
Also there's been at least one thread concerning a user taking delivery of an '08 MINI. Both auto-up windows and the USB port are definitely there.
