Mine must just be configured a diferent way, the tether has never gotten in the way. I think a lost gas cap would be far more inconvenient than the tether.

My wife's car does not have one. She's lost the cap once which caused the check engine light to come on.

I think a new cap from the lexus dealer was $40 and reset of the CEL was $60. Plus the only Lexus dealer is 25 miles away...the only thing worse is the Mini dealer is further

I wouldn't mind removing mine however I'm not the only one who drive's my car and put's gas in it.

I, too, have always found more benefit to the tether than problems.

I admit the response to this post has me totally surprised. I've owned many cars with this so called "feature" and it completely annoys me.

At least with the Mini they have the cap holder on the fuel door. On many cars the cap just has to dangle against the paint. I'd much rather have it free to keep it off the paint.

Never lost a cap, wife has never lost one, but quite a few folks like it, who knew?

You're surprised that there may be more than one opinion about the gas cap leash?

Me, I wish it were longer, but I don't hate it. Never lost a gas cap before my MINI, either.

My truck has a leash on the cap and a hook on the door to hang it from. Yes, the MINI has the little hole in the gas door but the leash is TOO short to use it. That is why I un-clipped mine. It seems to me that the MINI should have one or the other but not both.

When the car was new the gas station attendants tended to let it hang against the paint, which I hate, and would always hope out of the car and immediatly put it where it belongs so they learn.

At some point, some gas station attendant ripped it off it's tether. In NJ you aren't allowed to pump your own, so I have no idea which pump jockey did it. All I can do is narrow it down to one of 5 tank fulls. Doesn't look like it can be reattached either...at least when it's separated by force

I like it the way it is.

The change was a little different from other cars and trucks we've owned. A well accepted change in pace.

I don't mind in the MINI since it has a holder, but my wife's Yukon has the strap with nowhere to "store" the cap so it just dangles. I agree this is a problem.

It also spoils you... a friend of mine who grew up in Jersey once drove to Delaware with some friends and were very confused that no one came out when they stopped for gas... then they realized they had to pump their own and freaked out...

God Bless our regular Coopers!

Please don't closely inspect anything chromed on your Cooper then as you may be majorly disappointed.

Oh, No, Plastic Chrome!

Grill, Headlights, Beltline, Door Handles, and Boot Handle.

Funny I never noticed it in the last 4 1/2 years.
Well, as long as the Gas Cap isn't chrome, I think I can live with it.

Actually, 1 screw and one lip...and check your PM box, yours did not fit my car because the lip on mine is notched and yours isn't. Kinda stuck at the moment until I can find a Dremel to DIY the notches...

Actually, the gas cap door is metal because it can be powder coated. Door handles on the other hand...

I like the door, especially the locking feature. Not a lot of security, but at least it's some.

LOL about the NJ pumping. my parents have a house in Stone Harbor (reside in PA) and we go a few times a year. i always feel so guilty about full serve, even though i know its the law. i just feel to able to have the gas pumped for me.
