Have dealer update the ecu.
Nothing to worry about for now.
It can take from 1 to 5 hours. Mine took 2 hours.

I made it a game to play. Guessing when it would be on then off. So far I am 83% guessing when it will come on, and 92% on guessing when it will go off.

There have been zero differences in how Romi runs and gas mileage is better than ever.

I might get the software upgrade. But I hesitate as one Mini owner I know lost his intermittent wiper function when he got the latest update installed. I am not going to give up that function.

I don't have this problem, but in the name of taking a "long shot", did you try tightening the gas cap? I'm assuming you're talking about a check engine light? I've had two other cars in the past 3 months do this and it turned out to be the stupid gas cap not being on tight enough.

Just a thought. Good luck!

3500 miles here and mine went off today as well. I did notice a change in how it was running, so I'll be taking it in next week to get er checked out.

Min came on this afternoon also. Gas cap is tight. (Why did they get rid of the separate gas cap light that was on the later R50 / R53). The car is running fine. I'm waiting for the dealership service guy to call me back...

You can hook up an ODB2 scanner and see if there is a code. That can tell you what the problem is.

Just a very long shot, but did your friend truly lose the intermittent function, or just not realize it now works from the button on the end of the stalk (assuming we're talking about auto wipers)? I thought I'd lost mine, but I hadn't.

Mine came on about a week ago. I called the dealer to schedule an appointment and ask if it's okay to drive. They assured me that it was and made an appointment for this week. It was running the same as normal and sounded fine, although the fan seemed to be running a lot more than usual. Too bad we don't get a temperature gauge - would have made me feel a lot better. Tried turning my MINI off and on a couple times to no avail. However, it went out the same day and hasn't been on since. I'm guessing it had to do with the temperature (was our first truly cold day).

now that you mention the temp. it seemed to happen after a really cold day.
got warm again, then went off...hm...wierd. I will bring it in, but man, my nearest mini dealer is 80 miles away. It will have to wait for a few weeks. With the holidays, I have zero time to run my car there.

Thanks everyone for the support.

Yep, sure enough. I had no idea there was a button there until today. LOL!

as a side note, i finally got my snowflake warning for the first time the other day... i was like crap now what... lol... just my ge-mini warning me of the unsafe road conditions... how sweet of her...

My yellow CEL came on a few weeks ago. Off to the dealer. Apparently it was a bad fuel pump. The pump was replaced and all's well. Still I'm surprised the fuel pump went with 7000 miles on the car.

yea i wish they would have used a different warning chime for the snowflake warning than the warning that i gives for the CEL.

Occasionally I get the yellow temp warning, but it turns off almost instantly. Anyone else? It happens randomly, not necessarily under "spirited" driving or in bumper to bumper traffic.

Just came back from the dealer. I guess one of the temp. sensors was faulty and was telling the car it was running hot. So even though the light cleared itself, it definitely needed to be looked at. Plus, while they were at it they unlocked my secret compartment!

Yellow Engine Light

My yellow engine light came on last week and hasn't gone off. I checked the gas cap and put in super premium gas. Light still on, can anyone help? Problem is that I live in Alaska and they said I have to drive it to the nearest dealer (hello, Seattle, 2,000 miles away, can't do that) This winter when it was -35 below it came on and when I parked it in the garage after 30 minutes it shut off, this time not shutting off. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Help! Thanks

I've never seen the Yellow Engine Light. In fact, when I pop the bonnet the engine always has sort of combination silver/black look to it, so that light would probably not be coming on anyway. But for the life of me, I can't seem to find where in the heck the dang Silver/Black Engine Light is located...

Now back to your regularly scheduled topic.
