Speed Sensitive Power Steering

Can't say that I'm too fond of the speed sensitive power steering. Mine feels like it has no power steering at all except while sitting still. I know that this is suppose to give it that "sports car feeling". Is there any adjustment to this?

I had no idea our cars had speed sensitive PS. The only time my PS gets stiffer is when I push the Sport button. Is this a new feature?

I don't know if this is a new feature. I have a 07 MiniS and this is my first mini. To be honest, I just assumed it had speed sensitive power steering because mine works very well stopped but but once it starts moving it has very little or no power steering. This is with the sport button off. Maybe I have a problem.

i have great steering w/ or w/o the sports button. i dont think minis have speed sensitive steering. i have never noticed a decreased in the amount of steer and i love taking corners so i use it to its advantage!

I stand corrected. Just went to MINIUSA and minis do have "Fully Electric Engine-Speed-Sensitive, Variable Power Assisted Steering" as they call it. So disregard me about not having it :D

since miniusa is a flash site i couldnt copy text so heres a pic.

Thanks. I thought that I had read somewhere that it did have it. There is a noticeable difference in my power steering once moving. Since you said that you hadn't noticed any difference leads me to believe that it may be adjustable. If anyone knows how to adjust it, please let me know. Mine seems to be either on or off...nothing variable about it.

I just got done test driving half a dozen vehicles over the past month before deciding on the MCSa. Of all the cars I drove it was the Mini that had the stiffest steering input. This was increased with sport mode on.

A few cars had similar steering response (what I felt from the road) but the effort needed to move the wheel was less. I've never read a review where the steering was heavy or fatiguing so I hope over time this holds true for my own experience.

Speed sensitive steering is a great thing as you don't want the same help when parallel parking as you do when you are trying to keep a line at speed. However, being as the Mini starts stiff it only gets stiffer.
