Is this normal?

Ok- I just got home with my new MINI- like just pulled into the garage and when I shut her off, I am still hearing a little bitty noise, a zzzzzzzz noise and a bit of a spitting noise- it isn't the cooling fan- quieter; way quieter than that. I heard the fan earlier when we stopped on the way home to eat. Is this a normal thingy or should I be concerned?

I just ran out and checked and the noise has now stopped in the time it took me to let the dogs out and get the computer booted up. So, I assume it is normal? If so, what is it?

mine does that too, i think it's just the internals cooling down, A/C and the like, nothing out of the ordinary. Anyone care to confirm or not?

EDIT: i need to read the whole post first, wish i could delete posts, hope it's nothing wrong! Have a good evening!

IIRC, it's the water cooling of the turbo housing. Kind of like a built in turbo timer. Water flows thru the housing to cool down those bearings that just spun to 1 million RPM. (ok not really that high... but pretty darn high).

Since I'm still awating my 08 MCS I could be wrong. Someone correct me if I am.

i think you got it spot on if only they could keep the fan going for a little longer as well.... that would probably solve a lot of the hot hood issues.

That sounds very plausible. It was from the area of the turbo. I couldn't pin it down exactly and was in some of my nicest clothes and wasn't about to lie down on the garage floor and slide around on the floor just to be sure. I had changed shirts but when I got back out it had stopped.

Nervous new parent I guess..

I surmise you all have turbo coopers...however MAXX does emit a strange buzzing from the speakers ...i assume your buzzing is from hood area --- so maybe our buzz noises are different? mike

Yes it's from the hood area, like the quote said, it's just cooling down. No idea what your buzz is, electrical interference?

homecoming

I did the same double-take the night I drove my new MCS home.......hissing, I thought, there's no way on this earth that my brand new car is supposed to be hissing like it's venting coolant. I got on this board immediately, and sure enough, when I searched with the word "hissing" I found a thread about that very thing. This is such a great source for info....and reassurance :-) thanks to all who respond with either xxoo
