Seems like most people here name their cars. I may be a non-conformist, but I am not planning to name mine when it gets here. I just plan on driving it and enjoying it.

When I saw the specs I assumed that the car was female and tentatively named it "Phoebe" (like Alyssa Milano in Charmed).
Then I met the car and figured out it was a male on the motor home. Not just male, but lordly, a ruler, a healer --- one that could heal nations.

I love horse racing, so mine is named Weebiscuit, after the horse Seabiscuit. I figured both are small, weird looking and fast, so why not?

My 4 year old daughter named mine... Coopon. No idea why, I told her it is a Cooper and she said no it is a Mini Coopon.

You're not alone with your plans. However, I have to admit that I've been "trying on" various names and none have passed muster. If the perfect name smacked me in the face, then I'd cross over to the other side.

A large influence on my decision is the spousal unit who's staunchly against the concept of naming a vehicle. Of course, she was pretty strongly against the idea of a yellow MINI until she saw one, and she was very strongly against the idea of bonnet stripes until she saw some... If I come up with the perfect name — well, we'll see.

Names considered and rejected:
Gemma/Alphecca (named yellow dwarf star found in the constellation Corona Borealis -- it's a classic eclipsing binary)
Ian (or other British male names)
Jack (short for Union Jack, of course)

I'm also in the department for a personalized plate. I'm currently leaning towards HLFPINT (7 character limit in Colorado). I like the double entendre with the British "pint" (as I do enjoy the local microbrews available in this part of the country).

Ours is named "Cricket". She's green, so it kind of fits and it's also a British name, which was my only requirement.

My family has always named their cars and my last job for a company that named all of the cars in its fleet. It just seems normal to me to name a car.

In 5 years, I've never come up with a name for my MINI.

My wife's Purple Haze Cooper is called the Purple People Eater

One of my customers has a Red/white Cooper and she named hers Minnie Mouse, and i helped her work on getting a personal tag. She finally came up with MINILUV. I think it fits perfect for her. She was probably the most excited to ever pick up a MINI. She came by the store while hers was on order just to take out the Demo's so that she could get her "fix", as we called it, until her car came in. Lucky for her, it came in 3 1/2 weeks. Almost a record in my opinion. She also came in to pick up her car wearing all Mini Attire.

People don't understand how much us MA's love excited Mini customers and owners

I have a couple of "names" in mind but they aren't really names and one of the two will go on the custom license plate. I call him* my MINI or my Precious

Well ... it's BRG with white top and sunroof

.. and it has tan leather inside (like a good golden tequila) ... living just North of San Antonio the TexMex food capital of the world where Margaritas with salt on the rim are the de-facto drink of choice ... it was a no brainer ... "MiniRita" ... truthfully it took me a while to come up with the name and now I'm waiting on the car ... started production 11/16/07 supposed to be finished 11/22/07 ... with luck could be home for Christmas!

Here's a link to a larger thread on the subject of naming our MINIs.

My MINI has a name but in practice I don't use it. Only in my motoring journal.

Mine is named, but I'm not sure she likes it. It didn't really "smack me in the face" - so to speak.

Lyla - for the Oasis song by the same name. However, I reserve the right to change that. She is only a week old, after all

I couldn't think of a name for a long time. I considered everything from Celtic gods to a heroine from a Japanese romantic comedy who drove an MCS. Finally, I was reminded of a fun book from the 1970's called The Phantom Tollbooth. The main character is named Milo. Seemed like a good choice.

I decided not to name mine, thought it was silly. After driving it in the city for the first time I heard myself saying "I dub thee The Artful Dodger".

Now my BRG-S has a name.

I managed to name Lewis a couple weeks before he arrived. He's small, cute, British, and (most importantly) fast. Just like my favorite driver Lewis Hamilton.
