Windshield crack

Arizona is tough on front glass.

I was headed back from work the other day when I heard a moderate "Tick", as if something hit the windshield. I know this sound very well because I've had numerous windshields cracked on each of my other cars here. I scanned the glass to see if I could see anything and found nothing suspicous.

A few hours later, my wife and I got in the Mini (with 2300 miles on it) to go get a bite to eat when I saw a crack at the lower center, extending up about 3 inches, turning right and going about 4 inches towards the passenger side.

Sure enough, that "Tick" was a small (probably very pointy) projectile that impacted about 3/16th inches above the plastic at the bottom of the windshield.

It could have been much worse, but that first nasty thing that happens to your baby is, ....well, you know.

I understand the other day we had noticed a crack forming in the top of our windshield and I almost cried. I called my insurance company to see if they knew anyone who might be able to stop the crack. Unfortunatly by the time I got the answer it had moved across the widshield and now I am going to have to replace it. Very sad!

I got a crack the same way during a club ride back in June. One club member asked if it was still my 1st windshield (which it was). He was on his 5th windshield & recommended PPG glass over a Mini OEM. Some claim the OEM is prone to stress crcks more that PPG glass. ???

What is weird is, my wife's car got a crack less than a week earlier. A good friend got a new widshield put in a month earlier then cracked the new one in less than a week after install.

This left me in no hurry to repair it. Just waiting to see if our luck improves a bit.....

Yeah...I've had an impact within a month of replacing a windshield. Luckily it was a star that was fixable. I'm not in a hurry on this one.

I saw someone turn a crack once. I'd like to try it and send it down and forget about it until the next smack. However, I'd probably press on it wrong and turn it up.

I guess the dealer protection coating/insurance option was worthwhile. I've taken some loud hits, but no cracks.

My MCS goes in for a new windshield tomorrow. Same thing. A tiny pointed mark spread 6 inches in a couple hours.

Call your insurance company and get a zero deductible comp policy. It costs me about $5 a month, but I am 100% covered for the new windshield.

I got big round crack smack middle on the windshield. Furtunately, it is not running but now it looks like a spider web the size of a nickle.

The sad thing is that it happened after a local MINI meet up on my way home...
