R56 Unhappy with reverse lights
Unhappy with reverse lights
Does anyone else find the back-up lights aimed too high?
I park on the street and the lights don't light up the curb like all of my other cars/trucks. I have to hit the brakes to light up the area a bit while backing up. I fixed it on my wife's Honda Element by putting in brighter bulbs, but they were dim to begin with. I think the MINI's are pretty bright, just too high.
Maybe I'll just lower the rear

The only "white" lights allowed to be visable from the back of a car are the license plate light and back up lights. The two would be hard to confuse, so you would know when a car is backing up.
Mine have always been sufficient for me, but we may back up using different methods. Rear fogs would help, if you have them, or, try tapping the brakes. They are pretty bright and should help.
Good luck.

The lights are to see what you may be running into at night while backing up. The fact that other drivers are warned by the lights is secondary.

Well, according to the Texas DMV Backup Lights are defined as "white lights at the back of the vehicle that tell people you are backing up", not so you can see. I believe it is actually this way rather that what was just posted. To be honest, the "white lights" have increased in size over the years probably to cover the ability to help you see as well as it is a good idea.
I was always taught they were for warning others, not to see.
As for the OP, there is no way to adjust them as they are going through a diffusion lens to scatter the light.
