Speaker Doesn't Like the Rain

So...my MCS is just over 2 months old. Summer is turning to fall and we are having the occasional rain shower here in Sacramento. Last Friday it rained. While it was raining, an odd noise began to accompany all sound coming from the right passenger door speakers (one or both, not sure--I do not have the hi-fi system for those who are wondering). I can only describe the sound as a vibrating overtone. It was most obviously heard when I played acoustic guitar music and least heard with more electronic stuff.

Rain went away...within 12hrs, the noise went away as well. 3 days later it rains again. The noise is back. Again, within 8-10hrs of the rain stopping, the noise is gone.

Perhaps the association with the rain is pure coincidence, a confounder? They certainly seem temporally related. No rain since, but I'm waiting to see if it will be 3/3. Could the rain be leaking into the door and causing issues with the speaker? No obvious evidence of this...

Anyone have similar problems? Any theories?

well its suppose to rain tomorrow night... i guess its an excuse to go out for a night drive!

Maybe moisture is getting into the door and somehow messing with the door speaker?

This is the only explanation I can come up with...trouble is, I'd like to take the car in while it's actually making the noise. I had an appointment scheduled for Monday, but it went away by then...

Just a guess, but do you have the sunroof. if so they are known to leak and maybe get water into the wiring/amp.

Take your MA through the car wash?

Inside the car, or make them run through it themselves?

I do have a sunroof. Haven't noticed a leak...wouldn't it have to be dripping down the interior of the car to the speaker?

I'm not sure a car wash is enough water for long enough. I haven't noticed the noise after washing the car myself...but the thought of my MA running alongside the car getting wet is pretty funny...

And Modnar...love your sig.

Reading past posts from some sunroof owners who have had leaks, some didnt notice it until they lifted the carpet and found the wetness. There are four small drains that can easily plug up or become disconnected. check the area where the amp is.

Check the wheel well if theres a gap water from the wheel would be thrown right up on the speaker . That carpet on the well is the only thing keeping water out .

There are drains in the doors. They might be blocked. When I changed my speakers out I did it a few hours after I washed the car and there was still water in the door panel. Good thing I got the Polks that are Marine grade

There hasn't been much rain in my area this winter, but we've finally had a couple bouts in the past two weeks. On both occasions, same speaker noise. I took the car in and they disassembled the door...no water, all looked normal. It dried up again and the noise went away. Now they're back--both the rain and the noise. This time they say they'll just replace the speaker...I guess we'll see if it happens with the new one.

wondermini, hope the new speaker works out for you. How has your experience with Niello MINI been? I just moved to Sac and haven't had to see them yet... I'm hoping they treat you good? Offer loaners?

Also... even more off-topic (Sorry!), can you reccomend a DIY car-wash place in Sacramento (around Natomas would be great)? I just want to be able to use a pressure washer, then just scrub down the bugs from the bumper (etc), then take her home for a wax. sorry for thread jack.
