CD player ejects when door opened

I searched for previous topics on this and didn't find anything. When I open my door, it sounds like my CD player is trying to eject a disc even though there is nothing even in the CD player. Does anyone know why it does this or what is actually happening? I have the Hifi system.

Is this when getting into your car or comming out of it? If its when you are getting into your car it is your fuel pump priming.

It is when getting in. I could swear it is the CD player. I will be sure to pay better attention when I get in today.

You aren't talking about the windows being lowered slightly (in order to avoid popping your ears once you sit and close the door) are you?

Could it be the steering wheel unlocking? In the manual it says it does it does so audibly. In any case it's normal, I get a similar sound.

I've heard it too. There are two different noises. One's definitely the CD player and one is something else - maybe the fuel pump like someone mentioned.

it is a bit like a grinding sound, that is why you are saying that it may be the CD Player. I have it too every time I get back in the car when parked for a while.

I have heard all kinds of stuff from the getting turbo lubed, fuel pump, electrical coming on....etc...

normal. even the 02-06 models do it. It won't make the noise if there is a cd in there.

My cd player does the same thing if there is not a cd in it, but not every time, I think . Maybe I've just gotten used to it

Thanks.

Mine does it, too... I was embarrassed to ask WhyTF it was doing that .

I have yet to play a CD so it has always done this. Hmm, so I wonder why it does this? Anybody know? Seems like a strange behavior.

i always thought that the reason the windows lowered slightly was to not strike the weather stripping.

Mine seems to be reading the Nav disc every time I unlock it or open a door. I was guessing it was preloading stuff so it fired right up when the car starts. Not really sure. Doesn't seem to harm anything.

Funny I saw this topic. I went to get in my mini today and the cd in the drive actually ejected when I opened the door and went back in when I started her up. 13000 miles and almost 8 months of ownership and i've never noticed this until now. However, in the last week she has started to make the popping noise when taking off and the DSC light has come on 4 times along with my rain sensor failing 7 times in the last few days so I wonder if there all related somehow. hmmm I have an appt next wed so i'll find out.

Well I guess Skeeter is strange, as the CD never makes a sound.

The "slicing noise" you hear is the steering wheel unlocking when you get in the car, not the cd player.

Oh, is that what that is? Quite loud. I think what folks are talking about here is the whirring sounds emanating from the center console. I too thought it was the Nav pre-loading from the DVD. Mine does it whether or not there is a CD inserted.
