Ever wonder how the new MCSa performs?

I took my 2007 MCSA to the drag strip yesterday for some base line runs in totally stock condition. I was hoping for some low 15 second runs and boy was I surprised. The car ran the following:

14.76 92.37 MPH
14.75 94.30 MPH
14.79 92.56 MPH

Nice basline runs for a stock MCSA. The car really didn't feel that fast to me. I think it has to do with it not pulling hard all the way to the redline. Look at the one 94 MPH run, what is the ICU doing that lets it gain 2 MPH on one run and not the next. The MPH should be close to the same for all the runs. I think there will be allot of oportunity to make these cars run better with some tuning. By the way I am in the Chicago area and US66 is at 642 feet.

impressive.

Having test driven a stick JCW, I think the engine kit lets the engine pull harder to the redline. Hopefully the kit that supposedly is coming for MCSa cars will help even more. I am waiting anxiously.

I wonder if you can adapt your driving style to take advantage of the overboost function ? ( although 14 seconds doesn't give you a lot of time to adapt !)
Did you have it in Sport Mode ?

Sport button on and shifter nudged over to the DS side I suppose?
Did you try a run while paddle-shifting?

helps to use a first gear start too, I imagine. I don't use it much but it helps.

auto gears and manual gears have different ratios, but the manual should be faster based on gears, since they are shorter. but it is all up to the driver.

there have been tests that show the auto faster BUT its probably based on a more controlled launch.

Either way--pretty quick little cars.

The setup was, sport mode on, traction control off, pulled gear selector over to the manual gate and put the car in 1st gear. Loaded the converter to about 1300 rpm's and floored it on the last yellow. The car will shift by itself at 6500 RPM's. Would make a great bracket racer, very consistant ET's but the speed at the end changes, most likely due to the ECU's strange tuning from the factory. It will be interesting to find out what is going on inside the ECU in the coming months.

Dumb question - how do you do that in the MCSa?

Were you using the paddle shifter or letting the ECU do the driving?

Just put it in 1st gear and let it shift at redline.

Motor Trend Magazine got faster 0-60mph times with the automatic. See their current issue. They just added a MCSa to their long term test fleet.
