Heated Seats - heat level differs?

If you have heated seats - is the level of heat the same on both?

In the driver seat, High (3 lights) is quite toasty... almost 'wow, that's getting hot.' Medium (2 lights) is very warm, Low (1 light) is a gentle warmth.

However, in the passenger seat, High equates to just warmer than the Low of the driver seat. Medium and I have to really concentrate to notice if it's even on. (My sweet husband prewarmed the seat for me on level two - and I wouldn't have noticed if he didn't mention it.) I haven't even tried low on that seat yet.

I like the toasty seat.. is this something worth a call to the shop?

if you have a IR thermometer you could see what the seat temp is at each level and compare the two.

OK, this is just a theory, but do you suppose that people's bootys have differing thermal efficiency?

I'd do that. IMO seat heaters are the flakiest car accessory you can buy. I like 'em, but I had to have them fixed constantly in my former Jeep GC. The temps should not be different on the 2 seats and you can tell easily the high setting is hot on most cars.

I think the OP is speaking from personal booty experience in both seats.

I know that in the first-gen cars, the dealer could adjust the heat of the seats by changing/adjusting some components in the heaters themselves. If you have one seat that's getting much hotter than the other, then one (or both) of them may need adjusted.

Yes ~ hubby and I have very different tollerances. This example is my personal experience in both seats. (So yes, he has been allowed to drive. A few time.)

I'll follow up with the dealership - thanks for the feedback.

Doubly so when you're trying them out during a test drive in crazy 94F October weather.

Yeah, what's up with that? It's in the 40's here in the Northwest.

I also find my coffee mug in the cup holder will either switch the seat heaters on, or are in the way for 1-3-5 shifts.

Yeah, that issue bothered me so much I had to buy another mug that fit.
I really liked my old mug because it kept coffee hot for hours.

I usually turn mine on to low and it seems to heat up and get almost uncomfortably hot but it you tough it out for a couple of minutes it seems to drop down to a comfortable low setting. I'm just wondering if no matter what setting you pick, it initially comes on full blast so to speak. I haven't tried the medium or high setting to see how it reacts to those. Maybe tomorrow now that the weather hear is consistently cold. %^(
I'll be due for the 15K checkup before too long and I do plan to ask about this.

I must have a particularly icy bottom, because the highest level is RARELY too hot for me

Call me crazy, but I will put the heated seats on even when it's hot outside. I get a lot of back pain and muscle aches from work, so it feels really great to have it on during the drive home.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times-- those seats were worth every penny!!!

There is a difference between the two seats on my 07 MDX. The manual says that is has to do with the sensors in the passenger seat to detect the weight and position of a childs car seat.

Heat - back only...

What I love about the heated seats is the way it heats all the way up your back as well! I just wish there was a way to ONLY turn on the back heat - it feels soooo good on a sore back!

.

Don't let the electronics on that POS (JEEP) bias you. We had a GC and it was in the shop (at least 30 times in 36k miles)-all for electronics.

I agree that the bum warmers get very toasty, I will compare sides.

In my "04 there are two levels of heat... hot and hotter. I like the seat warmers in our X3 better, there are three levels... warm, warmer and hot.

I on the other have must not have much insulation because I rarely have them set to 3 and after a while 1 is even too hot for me.

I just drove a '08 328i and found the same to be true. I put my passenger's seat on 3 and then mine on 2. After a few minutes I had to turn mine down to 1 and then I asked her if she was hot, she barely knew the seat heaters were on. Then we switched seats and she commented on how much hotter my seat was. Maybe it's a BMW thing...

I find that the seats are crazy hot. Like insanity peppers. They seem to go full blast for the first 3 minutes, then calm down according to the level. I find them way too hot. I only last about 5 min. Then I have to shut them off. It's been -20C for the past week and I still have to shut it off.

Well I haven't noticed any difference between the two in my R56 but the level of heat is crazy!

3 = Fires of Hell
2 = Open Flames
1 = Slow cooking BBQ

I usually just turn mine on for a few minutes, as soon a I can feel the heat, off they go.

My wife's Audi has six speeds for the seat heaters, I turn mine to one, she uses 3 or 4, and it doesn't matter which seat we're in!
