LSD retrofit

I have a question. I bought my manual shift R56 MCS off the dealer showroom and love the car. Unfortunately, it wasn't spec,d with LSD and now I feel I am missing out on a much needed component. Expecially if I want to upgrade to JCW or Alta components.

How hard is it to add LSD after the fact? Is it expensive? Can the dealer add it or is it better to go to an independant garage? Is it worth it to add now?

Any advice is appreciated.

I have no idea what the dealer price for the insall would be.

But, normaly a quality aftermarket LSD, like a Quaiffe would be around 1100$ uninstalled. These are much better units then the OEM tho.

Install requires the dismantling part of the transmission to install the LSD. I have had it done on a Honda it was 6 hours of work to get it done. Lucky for me only a case of beer was the payment for a good friend.

My sugestion would be to see if the dealer will buy back your current transmission and swap you a new one, either way it is not going to be cheap. 500$ factory option was a steal

The Quaifes are 1100 + at Helix and the install time is probably going to be significant - i'll bet you're looking a 2K before you're done <img>

While we haven't installed an LSD onto an R56 yet, I can tell you that its a tough job. For the R53, we charge $850 for the install. Add that to the price of a Quaife unit, and your looking right at the $2k range like DeadEye said.

Is it worth it? Thats really up to you to decide.

If your car is going to be a lightly modded street car, then you might want to just save your hard earned money. If your going to chase big power or track the car then I would recommend it.

I don't know if Quaife has made an LSD for the R56 yet. Let me see what I can find out.

I just checked with quaife and according to them, the R53 LSD will not fit the R56.

do they have plans to make one? I know they are really the only choice for the R53 when it comes to aftermarket LSD. if they dont it would basically make R56 owners who didnt order factory SOL.

Thanks for all of the input. I'm on South Florida and don't plan on tracking so I think I will just save the money and make sure my next mini, which I will order, has it.
