Highway Mileage

On my trip to Louisville, KY and back last week (300mi each way), I averaged about 37mpg according to the trip computer.

This was in the rain both ways, and doing between 75mph-80mph.

MCS 6spd.

I must have a serious issue: my brand new MCS has been on a downward spiral of fuel efficiency: I'm now at 23.1 MPG!

Granted, I live in NYC and my average MPH is only 12.1.

I have just over 500 miles on it, and break in is only halfway through. Still, from reading this thread, it seems as though I might have a date with the dealer, right? Yes, I do drive in a "spirited: manner, but I am careful not to over-rev. Heck, I even have a manny tranny.

Every week it's down another .5 MPGs. I've taken to even drive more gingerly at times to see if it has any effect. Nill. Pathetic, right?

try going on a 'bonding trip' with your mini... i drove mine from texas to canada and my mpg boosted... granted you don't have to go that far, but take a day off and just drive out of the city and go visit the un-populated countryside just to bond... it should help some
i get 41 mpg in both city and highway now and i've no complaints... but if i go on a mini run i do drop to about 24mpg due to quicker and harder shifting, but when it comes to speed there's not much difference... just a thought

Maybe the 12.1 mph average is making the engine get to hot and lowering performance/fuel economy?? idk im not really one to know just trying to put some guesses out...maybe you need to find a place to really let loose (but hold back a little till break in haha)

It does sound odd tho to be going down...it usually goes up...especially closer to and after break in

Waoh a stick in NYC?!?! that must get tiresome after a while...i know i begin to hat stop and go traffic here in FL, but that doesnt happen that often and not nearly as crazy as up there

Well either way good luck and i hope its nothing crazy if you take it in to get looked at..hope fuel economy starts going up

Thanks guys. I promise to have a lovefest with the open road soon enough. That should certainly boost it up. In truth the type of driving here is so extreme, that I can't reasonably expect to be on the high end. The traffic is no doubt the main reason for the ridiculously low avg speed.

BTW:
I **love** the mantran in traffic. It's strange, but it keeps me from getting bored. I don;t even have the hill assist, even though I could see that making it easier. All my friends are the same way with our steadfastness to the virtues of shifting oneself... one's a Bimmer guy, the other is a GTI guy, the other is...well a hyundai guy. All are committed clutchers.

I have had the MCS for almost 3 months and the best I got was a roadtrip to the bay area from San Diego giving me an avg of 32 mpg. On the road now I avg 26-27 mpg. I am a little disappointed and hopefully the mpg will go up. There are about 3000 miles on the car right now.

I get about 30mpg on daily driving (mostly secondary roads, very little in city), on straight highway mileage I get 38-40mpg. MCS manual with 14,000 miles, I've been getting that mileage since new.

MPG problem?

My "07 MC OBC only shows about 24 mpg for mostly city driving. Should I have it checked out? Why is it so low?

i must i am quite disappointed as well, 600mi on the car brand new 08, just filled up this morning (makes 3 including the inital fill) calculated and am only getting 315 miles on the ifllup, 22 mpg...BARELY drive with sport, maybe 3 times a week for a mile or 2, work 7 miles from home....wtffff lol, i mean it beats my expo but still....

btw, light driving, under 4000 revs, stick

i live in Miami and drive about 36 miles one way to get to work, and im getting about 31-32 mpg a tank. its mostly highway but im sitting in rush hour traffic for half of the way home and to work. our stick mini even when my fiance is driving with his "lead foot" gets about 33-34. much better than the 24-26 hwy my toyota corolla was getting.

Perhaps it's just the winter gas, hopefully you will be doing better come spring time. Mine runs about 28mpg right now, about 4-5 mpg lower than last summer.

Honestly id either get that checked out or just do some tests first...i know with mine even being spirited in city or highway ive never gone lower that 36...i average 39-40 and i always like to gun it...i usually shift around 2800-3000...spirited i get it up to 3800 rarely ever past 4000, but there are those times

but you if ur driving a MC (non S) u honestly should never be getting lower than 30s unless u are shifting at 4500 every gear and leaving at 4500 for a while

07 R56, manual

City 25-26mpg (sometimes lower depending on how hard I drive)
Highway 30-31mpg

hand calculated, not using the OBC.

Hand calculations on my 11,000 mile 07 MC automatic:

35 average mpg

summer/fall average mpg: 37 mpg
winter average mpg: 32 mpg

My favorite mode is sport, but I don't jackrabbit start her. Jackrabbit starts, to me, are the death of reasonable MPG.

I've never had a more "fun vs. mpg" quotient.

Just my nickel's worth.

Happy trails.
