I still only have 800 miles on my 2007 MCS, but I've noticed the average (which I haven't reset yet) has been creeping up, I was down to about 27.3 and as of this morning it is up to 27.7. I'm pretty sure I haven't changed my driving style at all, if anything I've been pushing it harder.

I drive mostly around town here at college.
I CONSISTENTLY run just over 400 miles per tank, about 13.2 gallons. so about 31 mpg...

C'mon ckbridge, with all that info and data, can't you just calculate it?

I've had mine for 2 weeks today and have put 590 miles on and im getting 37.8 MPG (OBC)...alot of city and some highway.

I kinda realized that many people say how the obc is off and that the best way is to calculate it by handk, but the thing people are forgetting is that the obc does not include time at rest...basically you get the most accurate mpg of actually driving from the obc...by hand you are also including the time that you sit at lights burning fuel (which is not that good if you want to know true miles per gallon)

So I did a conservative driving experiment, because after adding intake and catback and driving it like its fun my mileage started to drop from 23 to 22.

Keeping it under 100 and staying around 70 when not passing on the autobahn and some local village traffic I got 31mpg. Glad thats over, back to 22!

Jas, I think you have real issues to take to the dealer. Your mileage should be way better.

MCS (manual) OBC readings:

100% city driving: btw 30-32

Long distance road trip (this one confirmed by tank fill-up): 37-38 when on my own, pushed it to 40.5mpg drafting behind an 18 wheeler for 1 1/2 hrs. VERY boring. Would not recommend it, but I just wanted to see how far I could push the efficiency in the MCS.

I looked into this hard as well before buying. The actual MPG via NAM was very influential. The topic has been addressed before but no harm in getting more data. Just pick the scenarios that mimic what you'll be doing.

Now I am looking for the Clubman actual mileage. Could be the next MINI with a little one on the way...

Seems like the 07 MCS is getting much better mileage than the older version.
I have a 07 Cabrio (Supercharged) and initially getting high 20s to maybe 31 mpg. Lots of folks are getting 38mpg or so for the turbo.
I like the better mileage of course, but I love the sound of the Supercharger.
I was going to go for a 15% pully reduction but am worried about the gas mileage hit. Will that happen? Will Engine or Supercharger longevity be affected as well?

I just have to be concerned where gas prices are going nowadays and thoses with oil burner bills make it even worse. Oy

I've been trying to drive my MC manual for fuel economy (just for fun) and have been shocked. Doing everything basically right I'm consistently getting 41-42 mpg on the OBC around town!!!!. If I get sloppy (but still trying) 40 mpg is easy...and this is city driving!!!! I never thought this would be possible.....amazing!!

Dear gokartride,

check your language settings and you will see that with UK Enlgish (vs. U.S. English) your MPGs are in imperial Gallons - U.S. gallons are 4/5ths of that - hence your actual MPG is probably low 30's.

Sorry about that Chief!

tim

ps. i went thru same process

Hmmm....I just checked. Mine does say U.S. English...in UK English it reads 49.9 mpg. Any clues?? As much as I enjoy euphoria, it's always better when it's based on reality.

Yeah I think you are right on with your numbers...i drive quite conservatively but still a lot, A LOT of spirited turns and acceleration and I always get atleast 37 mpg MC (non S) thats city mostly, but I've gotten 39 when really leaving it relaxed...highway I easily get into the lower 40's...you gotta love a car that you can drive 75-90 (which doesnt even feel that fast in the MINI) and the car is just sipping on some tea haha

I heard that the mini 07 is about 15% better on fuel - is that really true. I've been looking to buy an 07 but have not had any luck yet so I was thinking of getting an 06 but I am not sure if the fuel saving will actually be all that noticable as I am likely only going to be driving a little bit around town. Whatcha reckon?

Well hat's off to you then gokartride!

Early shifts and revs well below 3,000 with a 2007 MC - yes - I guess that's what you are pulling! Nice job.

Unfortunately, I have gotten more rev-happy and am now doing the ubiquitous 30 mpg in a 2007 MCS combined

Yeah I honestly believe that 07 is the best year to buy if your going for fuel economy...06 and below get lower, and now the 08 is lower i guess i bought at the right time haha

but yeah i usually shift right below 3000 and sometimes around 3500 and i still average 37.4 in my MC combined...i went with the non S because I wanted fuel economy, and even without the turbo the car is extremely nippy the other plus is i can gun it and have some spirited motoring and still get around 34 city, but it never averages lower than 36 and i always reset it

So I say go for the 07 MC

Actually with the MC you can get that mpg with shifting only a hundred or so under 3000...i can get that milage with mine and what really makes it in city driving is predicting the traffic lights so you never have to stop...i always check when the lights are about to change so i let off the gas wayyy before the light and by the time i get there the light has changed and the others have moved and i can continue on (usually around 20-30) but of course there are always times you do have to stop haha or theres people behind you and you dont wana get them mad

To get +40 mpg around town I've been shifting at or below 2500 rpms and rowing the gears, and then maybe cruising at 45 mpg in 6th on city streets. I've never has a 6th-gear in a Cooper before (previous Cooper was an '03)...I was just using 6th on the highway prior to this!! Silly me!!!

Granted not many of us are used to driving MINIs this way...least of all me, but the car seems quite happy in this mode and still more than keeps up w/ traffic. I'm the one who has to do the shifting though, and so the real issue here is (you guessed it) me!!!

In addition (just to report), I am using sport mode, but just to get the linear throttle map which seems to suit my foot better when launching. I find hill-assist really helps, too, as I don't have to get too frantic w/ the throttle on inclines. Finally...I have to say I really like the arrangement of the speedo/radio/readout cluster because the ability to display OBC info in this position is brilliant the more I explore it. I'm beginning to not think of this area not as a radio (even though it normals to that), but a multi-display unit. In this regard, having a MFSW really helps as sound system controls had be handled on the steering wheel, freeing up the center display for other tasks. Nice setup...again, I was the one limiting it's usefulness.

Anyway, I wasn't sure how accurate the OBC was...and still am not, but I am quite pleased/shocked and thought I'd report in. If/when gas prices spike next time it'll be nice to have a frugal mode to employ, although I plan to continue to explore this facet of the Cooper personality.

I drive a 2007 MCS with 9,500 miles on the clock.. I get around 35mpg driving around the country lanes and 44mpg on the motorways. That's on BP Ultimate 97 or Shell V Power 98 octane..
