R56 Actual Gas milage MC or MCS?
Another data point... canadian winter fuel economy numbers (hand calculated, not OBC):
highway, winter (-10C) = 6.0 L/100km = 39.2mpg (US gallons)
mixed highway/city, winter = 6.6 L/100km = 35.6mpg (US)
city, winter = 6.9 L/100km = 34mpg (US)
Can expect it to improve slightly with warmer weather, so these R56 coopers really do deliver 35 - low 40's mpg... quite impressive given I make no particular effort to maximize fuel economy (i.e., accelerate briskly, corner hard, rev high).

the only thing im dreading about summer is that the AC will cover up the difference of the better summer MPG...i hate how badly the AC takes from the engine
I used it the other day just to get some cold air flowing and it robs the engine sooo bad...shifts have to be even faster because the revs drop soo fast..a real downer

That's amazing Ben. I got 31.7 avg on my first tank in an MCS MT. Thought that was great. Somewhat hilly where I am. Filled her up w/ Shell 93 (I think the best here in the East, where Chevron is not readily available). Mostly suburban/rural/some highway driving, but hilly near home.
What kind of gas are you using? Is it all flat where you drive? Any other driving tips?

Im just here to say that the manual really does get a noticeably higher MPG than the auto...i had my car in for service Tue and their loaner is basically exactly my car when I first took delivery (and with only 2000ish miles it wasn't far my current milage...3800ish) but theirs was an automatic...with my manual I can easily manage 38 mixed, but lately I've been getting 30-40 and strictly highway is almost guaranteed 41 (depending on speed)...but when I drove this loaner back it was getting at best 35 highway, and once I got into city driving it went down to 33...needless to say I was shocked at the difference, especially since the auto seems to shift sooooo early (around 2200 and puts the car under 2000 on most shifts...I always keep it above 2000 and usually shift just before 3000)
Checkercoop, 41 highway is Prius territory. That's simply amazing. I think MC v. MCS = MC wins in mileage. But I didn't expect that much of a difference. What kind/octane gas do you use? I take it it's virtually dead flat where you are?
I'm getting 33.7 on Shell 93, but just filled up yesterday. So not a very good average yet per the OBC (I know that is not as accurate as checking manually.) I'm shifting early, coasting where possible and avoiding jack rabbit starts. Figure I might as well concentrate on good mileage while I'm holding back anyway during the break-in period.

It is pretty flat where I am, but where I live i have a big hill that averages my average out
because leaving i must get up it but coming home i coast down and see the "99.9 instant mpg"Honestly I think the OBC is more accurate because (at least for me because I've heard different for others) it stops calculating when waiting at lights so I get actually miles per gallon of actual driving...again others have told me theirs calculates all the time, mine doesnt seem to do that...it has a couple times randomly...once at around 1000miles, again around 2200, and just yesterday at 3800
Yeah thats what I did during break in was try for gas milage (and how to drive stick since it was my first haha)
Good luck
I'm currently at 40.5 mpg on my manual Cooper in all city driving, but I am really trying...mostly to see how far I can push this baby. I believe I'd be at 39.5 (since I normally drive in sport mode), but I've been experimenting with turning sport mode off sometimes when cruising. I think the less harsh throttle map saves some fuel...almost like cruise would. I'm not on the highway much, but if I was to take a road trip, I believe I would either try the car in cruise or in non-sport mode, just to round off the throttle inputs. I'm speculating that would yield the best results.

I'm amazed. We drove to Orange County and home on Saturday, 95 miles one way, all freeway driving, average speed of 71 mph, traffic was moderate (after all, any where near L.A. has traffic 24 hours a day), Sport button enabled, Cruise Control on 15-20% of the distance, and we got 36 mpg (based on the OBC). I'm a very happy MINI owner.
It's a 6 speed manual (not that that makes a big difference in this case).

For sure. In New York we use ethanol in the winter months (10% ethanol). Before the swithc in OCtober I was getting 34-35 mpg. Now I am getting 28-29 mpg with a pretty even amount of city/highway driving.
2007 MCS 6sp man.

I'm averaging 29 mpg in my 5 day old MCS 6MT. This is a 50/50 city/freeway mix but the freeway here is only free for about 3 of the 7 miles that i'm on it. So technically, my mix is around 75/25 city/freeway.
I'm very happy with the mileage coming from an S4 wagon that averaged about 11 mpg doing the same drive.
EDIT: this 29 mpg is OBC mileage; i haven't yet had a fill up to hand calculate the mileage.

I drive MCS about every two weeks from San Diego to Orange County and get about 35 mpg doing so.
For a week of my daily commute my OBC usually reads about 25.5 mpg, which isn't bad, considering I'm hard on the gas the entire time, trying to make up time for random, thick traffic.
I got a MC loaner went I took the MCS in for service, and managed to get 50 mpg highway, granted, I was going pretty light on the gas. I actually managed over 60 mpg, but then hit traffic. Pictures attached:

I just don't see the point of a Prius. If you drive a regular MC as slow as Prius drivers do, you can pull off nearly the same mileage, look better, and have the option to go faster if you need to. It's pretty pathetic that a hybrid is barely better than a completely gas powered car with a larger engine. For all their hype, I don't think Toyota actually builds very efficient engines, they just offset their engine's innate inefficiency by clobbering them with 900 lbs of hybrid and hoping no one sees through the smoke screen. Now if Mini build a hybrid, that would actually mean something.

^^^^ my only concern with that is the loaner my have been programmed for imperial gallons instead of US...hence the 50s and 60s...I have driving my manual for fuel economy and got 41, but i had an MCa laoner and that got only 34 highway...i dont think 50s and 60s US gallons is possible with auto no matter how lightly driven (I'm not trying to be rude with what I'm saying)

Imperial gallons? What's the difference? As a side note, where did you get that checkered flag for you car...? I want one.

I got it from minspeed.net
Pete is awesome, great customer relations, very friendly. I love his design for the checkers because they are bigger (i prefer them over the small checkmate edition ones). He has a few different color combos, but I got the clear with black checks so the pepper white shown through
